Because I'm old, I never had a card anyway. You don't need the card if you know your number, and if lost, you can only ever get one replacement.
If you need to prove your number, your form P60, form P45, a form P2 notice of coding, or even a signed letter on headed paper from HMRC suffices. Benefit detail notifications would also show number.

Please contact any social security .office or job centre They will direct you to the correct office/person. The card is very important If any one(Like Hospitals, employment agencies) asks for it you must produce it.Any one can give any number.
