It does not matter in which half of the year you got married.
If you were married at the end of the year (on December 31), you may either (a) each file your own returns as "married filing separately" or (b) file one return as "married filing jointly" for both of you.
This applies whether you got married on December 31 at 11:59 p.m. or got married in 1950.
However, if you did not get married until 12:01 a.m. on January 1st, then you each file your own returns as "single". |

If you are married as of 12/31, then you need to file as Married. No 6 months or anything. |

You must file as either Married filing jointly, or married filing separately. The IRS cares what your marriage status in on Dec 31. |

No she doesn't have to, but wouldn't she want to? Being married and filing jointly offers a big tax break.. your taxes would be less. Many people get married or aim for children before the year ends so they can get a tax deduction.
If not, then you still have to file married filing separate. Even if you get married on 12/31/07. |

You status is based on December 31st. If your married, then you cannot file as single. If you live in a non-community property state, filing separately may be advantageous, have your preparer do it both ways to see which is best. |

You and your newly wedded wife would have to file a Joint Return. You can get married on December 31, and would still be considered Married all year along. Sorry. |

You can filed married filing separately, not generally a good deal, or married filing jointly. IRS doesn't care when during the year you got married as long as it was by December 31 |

IRS says - Generally, your marital status on the last day of the year determines your status for the entire year.
I say you have two options. 1. if you lived apart file as you did previously or 2. you can file married joint or separate Which ever gains the most refund. |
