I would contact them to save having back payments.

you need to contact them. if you wait for them to come to you , you still have to pay from when you move in so if yoou leave it you may end up with a big bill. as you are under 18 your boyfriend may be classed as a single adult and you may be entitled to a reduction. you will need to buy a tv licence too because they will send someone round to your house to check and you get fined for not having one (you can pay monthly by direct debit) good luck in your new home!

You should probably contact them otherwise you may end up owing them money

I would recommend contacting the council before they contact you. I moved into a new house and for some reason the council had no record of the house. As a result of almost a year I could not pay them council tax. At the end of the first year and after the house was finally registered with them I received a final demand for the whole years tax.
The council were very un-interested in the fact that we could not afford to pay them £1500 that week and ended up having to go to court.
Ja.

you must contact them immediately and give them full details. Also ask if you might be entitled to council tax benefit and housing benefit. it always is a good idea to ask.

im sure the Council would contact you eventually, but its probably best if you contact them straight away and get it sorted out. At least you will know what your out goings are.

You have to contact the council to let them know the names of the occupiers have changed.

If the house is rented it is the responsibility of the Landlord to sortout the Council Tax.

Truly Madly
They will find out eventually, but by then you will be well in arrears. Phone them and tell them you have moved, and they will send you an application form to complete with your details, as well as a bill, as you could be eligible for assistance and/or discounts.

The legal liability will lie with your boyfriend - you can't be the liable party until after your 18 therefore he is solely liable for the Council Tax due.

From experience, I work in Council Tax, don't rely on the Landlord or agent to inform the council, do so yourself.

You need to ensure that you are disregarded from the bill and a 25% discount given until your 18 , at which point you need to inform the council to have your liability re-assessed.

Contact them and ask. If you owe Council Tax you will end up with a bigger bill the longer you leave it.

slippery magoo
You have to let them know of any changes otherwise they'll just take it that you're trying to avoid paying it!.....

You contact the Council....they will send you details of what to pay....it can be paid in 10 equal monthly installments.

If its a rented poroperty and its fully managed the chances are that the managing agent should have sent your details to the council - sometimes they do drag their heels somewhat -

The best thing to do is contact them direct - a letter will do. Supply you names, dates of birth, NI details and address plus the date you moved in and they will register you for Council Tax payment. If you are a student you will not have to pay counsil tax and therefore your partner ( if he works) will get a sole occupancy reduction (25%) off the final council tax bill
The year runs april to feb so you will get 2 months off!
I hope this helps
