Richard | My Salary is GBP 63250 and I am on Tax Code 522L. Is the Tax Code correct? Also NI is 295.26 is this correct? |

522L is the standard tax code for eveyone no matter how much you earn.
it will be correct but it depends if you have any benefits like a company car as these should be reflected in your tax code.
go to www.charnwoodaccountants.co.uk and go to their tax rates page. this shows all the relvent tax rates and bands.
the way tax works is that you dont get taxed on the your is that you are taxed different rates on different bands of income.
basically your income gets split into bands and each band is taxed accordingly so if you earn over £39900 you will pay 40% tax on earnings over this amount.
the first £5225 (common practice add a 5 at the end of the code to give the tax free amount, not a 0)of your income is tax free, then the next £2330 band of income is taxed at 10%, you get the idea.
the national insurance i assume is per month, yes this is correct and you will pay 11% on a band of income up to the higher earnings threshold and then 1% on anything over that.
also try here to calc what you should be earning.

hope this helps |

We do not know your circumstances so we can't say whether your tax code is correct. A code of 522 reflects the 2007/8 personal allowance of pay before tax of £5225 (assuming you are under 65 and not blind). I can't remember the bands for NHI contributions but it's all on the web site for HM Revenue & Customs. Follow links from: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ |

That doesn't sound right...contact your salary department and ask them to check it out for you. We cannot advise without all your financial details. |

Contact HM Revenue and Customs via the relevant telephone number on their website and they will tell you. Your tax details are relevant to you so it may not be possible to confirm whether it is right or wrong with a random person. |

No, I suspect it's all a figment of your imagination.
Good luck to you if its true |

Assuming you do not have a second job, or any other factors, the tax code of 522L is correct for the tax year 2007/2008.
The 522L signifies the amount you can earn (5220 pounds) before any tax needs to be paid.
