If you itemize, there's a place for vehicle taxes paid to the state, but that's it. Commuting expenses are not deductable for wage earners.

Ryan M
Heck no! What makes your situation different than anyone else who buys a car?

FRANK

No. That is true even if you what you are paid is reoported on a 1099. It is a commuting cost, which is not dectable.

rtfm
Nope. Not a chance. Buying a car is just a regular purchase like anything else you buy for personal use. Not deductible.

Boy, now that is a great idea. I have been working for 30 years for other people and just think I have been cheating myself. No you can't. If you could so could millions of us.

No, it doesn't matter if there is public transportation available, or what state you live in, or how far you drive, or whether you are an employee or a contractor - it's not deductible.

Ms. Angel..
wishful thinking.

Heatherrrrrrrr
Some things are deductable. Check with a tax advisor. Depends on your job. You may be able to deduct finance charges, mileage or part of your monthly payment.

It's possible only if you are paid by 1099 MISC rather than by W2 - that is, if you are an independent contractor rather than an employee.
