My dad has not filed his w-2 forms in like 8 years, what does he have to do to fix this so he can file again?
Because i need to file my fafsa and i cannot do it because of this, and i dont have any credit to get loans for college, and its really hard to save money for colege when i have bills to pay, thank you.

You don't file your W-2s, you file you tax return to which your W-2s are attached.

Your father needs to file his delinquent returns. If he is self-employed, he doesn't get credit for Social Security unless he files his returns.

IRS has a general policy of demanding only six years of back returns except in unusual situations. If he files 2001 to 2007, that will be enough.

He can go into most tax preparation offices and get a 2007 return filed in about an hour. It may cost him a couple hundred bucks but it will solve your loan problem.

If your dad has received his W-2 forms and not filed a tax return in 8 years it makes me wonder what is going on; most people are nailed to the cross if they are 5 minutes late? Remind him that there is a 3 year cutoff time beyond which he will be forfeiting any refunds he has coming.

He needs to gather up all the paperwork, W-2's and any 1099's he got, for those years. Then he can either download the forms and instructions for those years at irs.gov and fill them out and send them in, or else see a tax professional.

If he owes for any of those years, he'll pay interest and penalties. If he had refunds coming for 2005, 2006 or 2007, he'll get the refund. If he had refunds coming for years before 2005, he's too late and has already forfeited them.

He files.

The forms are available here:

At this point it would probably be best if he sat down with a tax professional to deal with the situation.

Whether there will be interest and/or penalties due, is not known. If he would have gotten money back had he filed on tim, he can still get that money back. There's really no way of knowing what the impact might be here until the form are filled out.

He should file. If he is due money back he can get it for 3 years back only.

For purposes of the FAFSA, he only needs to file the current year.
