steve s | My dad wants me to give him my tax refund check and he'd give me cash for it. does this make sense? |
how would someone benifit from that? i'm getting exactly what the check is for, so i dont care. but what benefit does he get from me doing this? Additional Details i do have an account, thats why i dont get it. but when i ask him or my mother why..they say dont worry about it. the shitty thing is that i live with them. so thats why i'm wondering if he can benefit from this. |

Does your dad own a business? Maybe he's trying to do something shady so it looks like you're paying him as a customer would, and then he makes it look like he's spending cash on business expenses (e.g. withdrawing $1000 and giving you your $600 so he gets $400 tax free). Just a thought. Why not ask him why he wants to do this? If you question your own father's intentions then it's probably for a good reason. Just cash it yourself. |

i would take it to the bank yourself and tell him to get his own refund check |

It sounds like he's just doing you a favor. Do you have a bank account? If not this would save you the trouble of paying a check cashing fee. There isn't much he can get out of it. Tell him 'thank you' and take the cash. |

He wouldn't benefit from that. He'd just be cashing it for you. |

Maybe nothing, maybe he wants you to have your money right away.
Be sure you get the cash right when you hand it over though. I don't know your dad, but the other reason i can think of is that he has no intention of giving you the money.
Best of luck with that. |

He's just doing you a favor, for heaven's sake! This is what I always do for my daughter when she gets checks, for example, in a birthday card. She'll sign the check, I'll give her the amount of money the check is for, and then over the weekend or whenever I get around to going to the bank, I'll cash it and keep the money myself. It simply saves her a trip to the bank (or saves me the trouble of driving her there).
I really think you're imagining a conspiracy theory when there isn't one. Just say "Thanks, Dad" and leave it at that!
EDIT - OK, now that I've read the additional details, something does sound odd here. Maybe just say "NO thanks, Dad!" and go to the bank yourself with your own check. I can't actually think of any dishonest reason why he'd be asking to do this for you, but ... go with your instincts. Take care of your own money yourself. That way you'll be sure it all gets to the bank where it belongs. |
