My daughter is 17 & my dependent, why won't she get a tax rebate? She filed a return & got a refund.?

If she was age 17 as of Dec 31, 2007 she's too old for you to receive the $300 kicker. And since she's a dependent, she's not entitled to one herself since dependents are not eligible.

Why? Because that's what the LAW says.

This is from the IRS website.

Q: I know some people won’t get a stimulus payment. How do I know if I’m one of them?

A: You won’t get a stimulus payment in 2008, if any of the following apply to you:

You don’t file a 2007 tax return.
Your net income tax liability is zero and your qualifying income is less than $3,000. To determine your qualifying income, add together your wages, net self-employment income, nontaxable combat pay, Social Security benefits, certain Railroad Retirement benefits and certain veterans’ payments.
You can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return (whether or not you actually are claimed as a dependent on someone else's return). For example, this would include a child or student who can be claimed on a parent’s return. [Updated 4/15/08]
You do not have a valid Social Security Number.
You are a nonresident alien.
You file Form 1040NR or Form 1040NR-EZ, Form 1040PR or Form 1040SS for 2007.

If you claimed her on your taxes as a dependent, she will not be able to get a rebate. If you did not claim her, and she made more that 3,000.00 then she will get a rebate. Hope this helps

"You're eligible if you have a valid Social Security Number (SSN), CAN'T BE CLAIMED AS A DEPENDENT on a tax return and have either an income tax liability or "qualifying income" of at least $3,000."

Love!
Because you claimed her a dependent.

Because that's how congress wrote the law.

She doesn't get a rebate because she was a dependent.
You dodn't get a rebate for her because she's too old.

You did get a benefit by claiming her on your tax return, but nothing more.

where is everybody?

she's too old for it

why? Because the government said so. Complain to Congress if you want your daughter to get money.

The IRS is not going to pay money to people who have dependents and their dependents. That is paying twice.

she's a dependent of you...it's the same way with me

Because the law that was passed to allow the stimulus payments said that dependents are not eligible, that's why. Complain to your senator or congressman.

oldwolf1951
If you filed her a your dependent then you will get 300 extra for her as well as 600 for you, as well as your normal refund She gets nothing because you listed her as a dependent. She just gets her normal refund.

bucks4ever13
it's because she's too young and a dependent of yours
