it depends. if she lives off of the support as counts that as income then yes she can file as for who ges to claim the child would depend on if she has soul custody. if she has soul then she can file for the child tax credit, if its joint im not sure how that would work. best way to find out would be to call H&R block or Jackson Hewitt they can answer any questions you or your daughter may have about fileing. |

No. She would only file a tax return if she had income.
Child Support is NOT income (even if your duaghter is "living off it").
And she would not qualify for the Eared Income Credit because she has no earned income. |

No. You only file taxes when you work and have taxes taken out. |

She can, but she doesnt have to file her taxes. Child Support is NOT taxable, nor a write off. the child is a dependant, but only if she works and pays more then 50% of the childs living expenses and the child lives with her for a certain amount of time per year.
here are the links for you about child support by the IRS.

Child support is taxable to the payor, not the payee. It is not income for tax purposes for your daughter. |
|

Celeste

Sorry, but no.
Child support is not counted as income. She must have some sort of taxable income to be able to file a tax return.
Child support payments are not taxable for either the payor or payee. |

If the child support is her only income, no, since it isn't taxable or even reportable. |

only if she has earned income |

HECK YES! In my divorce I gave my ex the right to file taxes for our children. However I can still file my taxes for the children as well, I did this through H & R Block, I forget what it's called but they know. Oh by the way I did not work that yr or the prior yr. And if by chance the children's father(s) has un-paid back child support have her fill out a form and file it with the Treasurary Dept. so they can intercept his income tax refund and send it to her! H&R can tell you what form that is as well. Ask me how I know ; ) Athena998 got it right it's called the ''child Tax Credit'' |
