Unfortunately, no because you received the money that they did not withhold. You still owe the same amount of taxes overall that you would have regardless of if they withheld it or not.

I run into this every now and then as a tax preparer, and I would suggest that you make sure on your paycheck stub that at least 10% of your gross income (for 40K or less annual income) be withheld every paycheck period as "Federal Witholding". Don't include FICA and Social Security in that 10%. If they aren't withholding it, then take it out of your check yourself and put it in a savings account That way, you will have it to pay April 15th (plus you would have made a little interest as well!)

No, you are liable. It's your tax bill. If you noticed that you weren't having enough withheld, you should have updated your w-4 OR saved up the difference to be able to pay YOUR tax bill.

No, they aren't liable, you are. Didn't you notice that your checks were larger than they should have been? It's your responsibility to see that withholding is correct.

No, they are not. $120 may be the correct amount even with the extra $5 per pay period if your wages were very low. In fact the $120 may be the $5 per pay period and nothing more if you wages were REALLY low.

How much is the amount in box 1 on your W-2? Post that and I'll have a look and tell you what should have been withheld, just for your information.

If you want more on your paycheck you should increase your allowances. Zero allowances means employer will withold the max.

theres a tax chart that shows how much they will withhold from each check. it is based on your earnings during the period for the check. if you're single 0, which i'm guessing you are...if you make less than about $100 per check, they withhold nothing. So they probably only withheld your $5 additional that you requested if your wages were low

Zero allowances means they take out MORE. Employer is NEVER obligated to pay your taxes when the wrong amount is withheld, just any penalty.

See IRS Publication 919 for helpful information.
