My entire family is disabled why can't we qualify for the stimulus package Bush has approved.?
My wife, my self and son are all disabled we receive SSI, and Social Security. We do get more than 3,000 per year. I think anyone that has paid into the system by working should be able to get this tax rebate. We have paid in not only by working but also paid taxes on our home. This is not fair. When you live on limited income you should be able to get it. Its not like your asking for something you have never paid into. It seems to me the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Bush is US and you question is in the UK section

While SSI doesn't count towards the $3,000 requirement, other Social Security benefits do.
The IRS website clearly establishes the criteria to qualify for the rebate.

It is called a "tax rebate" meaning you need to have paid taxes in the past year. Paying into Social Security in the past has nothing to do with this plan. Also if you make over 150k or something like that you do not qualify or you get less of a rebate.

Wait a minute. You said you get SSI AND social security. If you and your wife between you are receiving at least $3000 in social security disability for 2007, then you ARE eligible. The SSI doesn't count, but it doesn't disqualify you either if you DO have eligible income. And SSDI counts as eligible income as long as it's at least $3000.

But to get the payment you'll have to file a 2007 tax return, so be sure to do that. There are instructions on irs.gov to do that - if you have any questions, ask again here.

Good luck.

You may all be eligible if you each have your own disability case.
Even if you don't normally file tax returns you can each file a tax form for the purposes of getting the rebate. If your son is a minor he is not eligible.

Try contacting your local NAMI, they may be able to tell you exactly how to fill out form.

Excuse me?! You are living off government money and think you deserve a TAX REFUND?!?!?

Has nothing to do with the rich getting richer. My taxes are paying your way. You don't need another three grand.

You've got to be kidding.

Ask this in the US.

You can go to a local tax office (preferrably Jackson Hewitt or H&R Block) and they'll charge a small sit down fee but they can't charge you anything else by law. You'll need proof (check stubs or bank info) with you that you've collected SSI and they'll do a return for you.

Fill out a 1040A with your personal info including SSN . Leave the numbers part blank. Write "stimulus" on the top of the form.

Sign it and mail it in. You should get a stimulus check.
