Your girlfriend could be your dependent if
1. She lived with you for 12 months
2. You provided over half of her support
3. She had less than $3,400 of income subject to tax.
Since she worked for five months, it is unlikely that the income test 3. above holds. She would file her own return and get most or all of her withholding back. If she is over 25, she may get some Earned Income Credit for low income.
If all three conditions above hold, you can claim your girlfriend (as long as she isn't married filing a joint return and your relationship does not violate local law). You will get an additional exemption of $3,400. You will not get other benefits, such as Head of Household, since she is not related to you. If you are in the 15% tax bracket, this exemption would save you at most $510 in taxes.
If you claim your girlfriend as a dependent, the girlfriend can still file a tax return but cannot claim herself. |

If your girlfriend lived in your home all year and made less than $3,400 you may take he as a dependent. You would however still file as a single person not HOH. |

You can only claim yourself. She claims herself on her return. |

You definitely can't claim head of household based on your girlfriend - only a close relative will qualify you for that, and she isn't a close relative.
You say she didn't work for 7 months, which sounds like she did work for the other 5. If she made $3400 or more for the year in gross income (including any unemployment she might have gotten) then you definitely can't claim her, so that's probably out just based on income. If she didn't make $3400 then there would be a number of other requirements you'd have to meet, but there's no point in going into those here, since it's probably already out just based on income.
So no, stick with 1 allowance on your W-4 - ir it's your only job, you might be able to claim 2 and still not owe at the end of the year.
Your refund will be whatever it is just filing for yourself, since that's all you are entitled to. And even if you could claim her, which you can't, that wouldn't affect whether she could, or would be required to, file. |

If youu are in a state where cohabitaion is illegal you cannot claim her. Virginia for example. And she would have had to make less than $3400. |

depends where you are from but here you can claim her after three years of living together and with the other 2 dependents you would get all the taxes you paid to the feds back and a form for assistence |

you cannot claim head of household for another adult.
You will need a qualifying child to do that!
Not sure about the rest of it but I think the most you can claim in this situation would be two...
B. if you claimed her on your taxes she can file her own but she cannot claim herself since you will have already claimed her.
Get one of the tax software kits (best buy, walmart etc)
;and do your taxes claiming her and have her claiming herself.
I think that she will get more money back by claiming herself because she can get the earned income credit if she only worked a short amount of time and didnt make much money |

I'm pretty sure you can't claim her unless you are married .
You will each have to file separately |
