He can claim unemployment benefit from your state unemloyment benefit program regardless of his spouse is working. The amount of benefit depends on how much he had paid into the unemployment insurance while he was working and the level of his pay becomes the determining factor in how much he will be getting in the benefit.
Usually, the unemployment benefit starts from the date of the claim, so, he should apply immediately. They do not pay for the weeks he did not claim (no retroactive payments) even if he got laid off weeks ago. In other words, the benefit does not start at the date of unemployment but starts from the date of the claim.

you can get jobseekers straight away then after 3 months if hes still out of work they may start helping you with rent and that depending on your circumstances more kids you got the better

He can claim job seekers allowance he will need to go to the job centre and take proof he was made redundant (because if you leave out of choice or are sacked you can't claim straight away) they will also backdate it to the day he lost his job.

yes he can claim jobseekers allowance and also if he fills in a housing benefits form and puts in the information about the kids andyou and your earnings you may get some help with rent and council tax.

if he is born an bred in britain, you are working, living in private rent or mortgaged house then you will see no help from this government.
dont expect to get any worthwhile asssitance with getting a new job it will be 100% down to him.
