You can file either way, but a joint return might end up best. |

File together, better tax benefits for married folks. Good luck. |

You have to file married filing jointly or married filing separate:
Jointly -
AGI - 65000
Less:Exemptions - 10200
Less:Standard Deduction - 10700
Taxable Income - 44100
Tax Liability - 5,864
Separate -
AGI - 20000
Less: Exemptions - 6800
Less: Standard Deduction - 5350
Tax Liability - 804
AGI - 45000
Less:Exemptions - 3400
Less: Standard Deduction - 5350
Tax Liability - 5614
The total taxes due, using the information you provided shows that filing jointly will give you less tax liability. If you withheld, for example, 7,000 dollars in taxes during the year your refund will be as follows:
Married Filing Joint - 1136
Married Filing Separate - 582
These amounts may differ but it shows that filing joint will give you the largest return. |

Use Turbo Tax. Do both but don't submit either until you decide which one has a larger return. Then file that way. |

you will have to run the numbers but you can file separately anytime you want |

I am glad you are back together but, be smart, file seperately. Single Head of Household. Next year if it all works out file together, but try to file seperate again if you can. The person you file with can better give you an idea how you can receive the most money. |

I'm not sure how that would work because, technically you guys were still married but separated you should ask the person who makes up your taxes. He/she would know the best route to take that way later down the road you wont have an issue with owing IRS. |

You can only file together if you lived together for a certain amount of time over the last 6 months of the year (ask your tax professional for the exact amount of time). |
