you need to know if your moms claiming you or not.
But its easy to do online yourself. just go to IRS.gov and theres a place that says free file and it will walk you through the process. its very easy.

DeeDee
it should be easy for you. Go to taxact.com for a free tax service.

Get yourself a 1040EZ form and do them yourself. Forms are available at libraries and post offices. Like the name says, it's easy. Read the instructions carefully, fill in the boxes, and you're done. 30 minutes tops.

You can do it online or get paper return from library. Be sure to note that you are claimed as dependent, or there will be problems. Maybe you could print it out for Mom to see after you do it, but BEFORE you actually file it? Keep things calm at home. The 1040EZ form is quite simple, and you should be able to easily complete it. But if you file without coordinating with Mom, you both could have extra filings and dealings with the IRS, and you don't want that!

Electronic filing gets quicker processing by IRS, and Direct Deposit into your own bank account is quickest refund route. You of course, are eligible for free efiling at irs.gov. Print out a copy of your return, then go to your state's website to free file your state return.

If you earned less than $54,000 or so, there are a number of entities that will provide a simple service to complete your taxes for free online. The IRS will link you to the companies here: http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html. I have used H&R Block's service in the past. If you have a noncomplicated tax return (i.e. just a W-2 and no investments like stock) it shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes or so. What's great is you can complete this online, file it quickly, and have your return directly deposited into your bank account.

DeeDee is correct . go to http://www.taxact.com been using this site for the last 5 years , never a problem

You really need to let your mom do her taxes first, then yours.

Here's why. In all likelihood, you are her dependent. When filing for the first time, many dependents answer the question about dependency wrong. If your income was $6000, you will owe about $65 in tax. If you answer the question wrong, not only will the system think your tax is $0, it will prevent your mom from efiling. She would have to file on paper (you would have to amend) and she'd have to wait another 2-3 weeks for her return to process.

It's *not* almost April. It's not even March 15th.

It is very easy. I am 43 years old and I started doing my own when I was your age. I not only do my taxes, I do my kids, my friends and my families. I have used turbo tax for many years and it is just a series of questions. It will be free for you since you made less than 30,000 dollars last year. You will want to sign on to www.taxfreedom.com. After you finish your federal return they will ask you if you want to do your state on the site if you don't live in one of the free file states you will be charged, so you should decline. The free states are: AL, AR, AZ, GA, ID, IA, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NY, ND, NC, OK, OR, RI, SC, VT, WV.

I use taxslayer.com. It is pretty simple. But it does cost $9.95
to e-file on this particular web site.

I'm a first timer myself, and I am using TaxAct. I'm very happy with it so far. Just get the info you need and enter it. Very cheap, too.
