My mother filed for me on her taxes without my permission?
I am 25 with a baby and a full-time student. On my FAFSA, I stated that no one can claim me as dependent.

I am also concerned that this will affect my financial aid because my mother is a Nurse.

As it stands now, I am eligible for full financial aid (EIC = 0)

I do not live with her. She has claimed that she received 2800 as a homeowner and is proposing to give me 400.

I do not know if this is fair, but I'm also concerned about the bigger picture.

Thoughts are appreciated.
Additional Details
I've not yet filed. I was going to when she so casually shared that she had already done it.

I would like to know if she is possibly being DISHONEST about the amount she received.

If you made over $3400, or your mother does not provide more than half of your support, your mother cannot claim you. Tell her to file an amended return (Form 1040X) and remove you as a dependent.

How did you file? Did you claim yourself? If so, the IRS will send both your mother and you a letter asking each of you to drop your claim if if you aren't intitled to it. If both of you continue to assert the claim, the IRS will investigate and determine who gets the exemption. The losing party will have to pay the extra taxes plus interest and potential penalties.

she cannot claim you at your age, if she had guardinship of you or the baby then she could claim whomever she had guardianship of. Did she lie on her taxes about your birthdate?

You got screwed.

I would do my taxes and see what you should have gotten back...then requested that amount.

With a child you should get more and a rebate too.

As stated above I don't think she can claim you anyway.

You can call to IRS to block your SSN from being used by anyone other than yourself. Your mother was wrong. I had a similar issue. My aunt claimed me when I was in school. I called my advisor first and let her assist me with this problem. She got me a number to call financial aid to make sure you still qualify. It really depends on what she made. Because it can affect you. If you work file your taxes and claim your child. Make sure you file head of house hold. Your mother will have to pay the money back. Not to be mean she deserves what she get because you didn't give her your permission to claim you.

My mom did this same thing to me when I was in college. She lives in another state then i do. She claimed me then I filed on my own as well. It didn't do anything to my finical aid. My mom just had to pay back what she got for claiming me.

Do you live with your mother? Does she provide your food? What about the baby's food? It all depends on what she provides for you.... need more details.

Age has nothing to do with it. You can claim your grandmother if you provide for her.

Your mom have no right to fill you on her taxes with out your permission ,that is if you are listed not dependent on her
