Assuming she meets the National Insurance Conditions for Incapacity Benefit she can claim that. BUT she can only receive Widows Pension or Incapacity Benefit, whichever is the greater amount payable.
Just to clarify some misconceptions around as well. Widows Pension stops when the claimant reaches retirement age.
The circumstances presented might indicate entitlement to Income Support, which is means tested. Sick people can claim this but generally widows cannot, unless they were widowed before 2001 and were a certain age then |

She can only get sickness benefit if she is working. She will need to find out which would be better for her one of the disability benefits or the widows pension as you can only get one of them. She should get the Attendance Allowance to pay for someone to help her but claim now-it's not back-dated. |

Is she of working age? Incapacity Benefit is only available to people of working age who cannot work due to illness or disability. There is no such thing as "Sickness Benefit"
What she will get depends whether she is claiming Incapacity Benefit or Income Support.
If she has paid enough National Insurance Stamps and is entitled to Incapacity Benefit then she may be able to claim IB without her pension being affected - I'm not sure if it is means-tested or not (check with DWP)
If she has not paid enough NI contributions she will have to claim Income Support which is definitely means tested and the amount she receives would be reduced by the amount of her pension - if the pension is more than the weekly amount of Income Support which she would be entitled to claim, then she wouldn't get anything at all.
However, she may still be entitled to Housing or Council Tax Benefit if her pension income is low.

There are too many well meaning people that answer questions but don't know what they are talking about.
Follow the advice of the lady that works for the DWP. Entitlement to benefits is a complicated business and you haven't given enough information to be advised properly on this forum. |

Depends how old she is....If she is not of working age, then she wont be able to get incapacity benefit...if that is what you mean.....but if she is not of working age, I dont think she can claim anything....it all keeps changing so I may be wrong....the phrase Sickness Benefit is confusing me, not sure what you or her mean by that. |

Fill in the forms for benefits from the benefits office you can get to it online of go into a local office where they will help to fill it in.
She may be able to get attendance allowance and benefits to top up the pension if she is getting below a certain amount.
I have a friend with a small pension who is not yet 60 and she got a few pounds extra when she was sick. If she is over 60 there are lots of extra benefits available too. |

The pension benefit won't change if she is ill.
The pension pays the same all the time.
If the pension doesn't pay enough, she can claim some benefits from the government (benefits agency) as she can not work while sick.
The sickness benefit will be means tested, and the pension will have to be declared.
Because you don't say the amount of pension she gets each month, its not possible to say how much she is entitled to claim.
You also fail to mention her age, if she works (when not sick). Or has any insurance for Health. |
