to be considered your parents dependent, at 22, you must be a full time student, they had to provide more than half of your support, and you had to live with them for more than half of 2007. if ALL of these aren't true, then your parents can't claim you and you can claim yourself. |

If you lived with them during 2007 then they may have the right to claim you for that years taxes. If so then maybe you could ask that they give you a little in consideration. If you did not live with them in 2007 and they did not provide any assistance to you then, no it is not right and you should let them know that you will be claiming yourself. If you are claimed on both their taxes and yours the IRS will hold them both up until the dispute is resolved and you may have to prove that you lived on your own and did not get asstance from them. |

if you did not live with them in 2007 and you are not a student. in other words if you live on your own as a working adult tell your parents NO they cant claim you that is your money. basically if you are supporting yourself they are stealing from you. just dont give them your w2's |

are you a student? How much did you make? Do they pay for your support? |

If you lived with them and they supported you in any way during 2007, then they can still claim you.
Do they pay your mortgage and other bills? College tuition and expenses? If so, they may be entitled to claim you for this as well.
Otherwise, no, they should not be claiming you on their taxes. |

If you didn't live with them for over half of 2007, or if you weren't a full time student for at least 5 months during 2007, then they can't claim you. Go ahead and claim yourself. They'll end up having to amend their return and drop the claim to you as a dependent. |

only if you lived with them or they helped you during the 2007 year. if you were completely independent then tell them you will be claiming yourself. if they claim you and you claim yourself independent then the IRS will go after both of you and you will have to deal with proving who is right and probably pay fines they have fines for everything that someone does wrong on their taxes. |

They probably get more back by claiming you than you would by claiming yourself, so maybe you can get them to split it with you. It's what I would do if I were you. |
