No. But is due a refund if his employer withheld any taxes. If they did he should file. Make sure he does NOT claim himself as a dependent because you will be claiming him.
Another reason to file although not required is, his earning will not be posted to his Social Security unless he files.
Jen
It depends on that states tax bracket. If he doesn't make enough he doesn't have to. I would file it anyway just to have it on file
kadel
I am sure the employer withheld taxes and he is probably entitled to a refund.

Not if the job was on a W-2. But if anything was withheld for federal income tax, he should file to have it refunded to him.
Cata
You will have to file it for him becauses he is not 18years old yet but you can give it to your accountant and they can do it for you. I believe if you make under $5,000 a year you do not have to file taxes anyway.

I looked into this and, as long as your son is in school full time which at his age i assume he is, and makes less than 5,000 then he is not required to. However if he wants the refund from his withheld taxes he can. It's really up to you.
Ms. Angel..
Even if you do not have to file a return, you should file one to get a refund of any Federal Income Tax withheld.
Don't forget if you claimed him on your taxes for him to check the correct box on his return.
Lynn
If you make under 8000 then no.
