What do I need to do to properly take care of the taxes for California state and federal taxes when I receive this 7.5mil? Inheritance tax is paid after the fact, when you file your tax return. Nothing is withheld. Now, you say this is a relative? How did they find you? Was it in a letter from a real person, or an email? NO legal office will use email, EVER. The last experience I had was as a courier and the law office used registered mail and notarized copies of documents, hand delivered and signed for each step of the way. I suspect this is really a scam, an advance fee fraud, where they ask for you to send some amount of money up front for one reason or another. There are always fees to be paid, officials to bribe, all kinds of reasons they need for you to send money, and they ALWAYS say to send the money to them via western union, by the way, since you have to turn over CASH to western union and can't send them a rubber check, but that is exactly what they will send to YOU.

Or the "anti-money laundering" certificate?
Or the estimated taxes for the IRS or FTB or customs?
Or the courier delivery fees?
All of this is the norm for an advance fee scam.
Now that most people equate Nigeria with scam, the scammers are claiming to be from other African countries. |

I seriously hope as soon as your bank opens its doors you are there to close your account...if not you will have NO money in there and your reputation will be destroyed with not only that bank but EVERY OTHER BANK in the nation.
As far as your 'dead uncle', you will wish you could join him! This depsoit that they are going to make to your account will spell the beginning of the end. of your financial life as you know it. Because (news flash) THERE IS NO DEPOSIT THAT IS GOING TO BE MADE, this is a scam!
Please call off of work and cancel your account and put a fraud alert on your credit accounts. DONT CALL THE BANK go to the bank so that they know it is you! Hopefully you will get there in time! |

This sounds like one of those scams where some long lost relative you never heard of has millions laying around and wants to give it to you. But it is all locked away in some overseas account and you cant get it unless you send some money to cover the expenses. Trouble is, there is no money only a scam artist who is preying on your basic need for greed and is cleaning you out.
I would be VERY suspicious of this. But if it is legit, then you need an attorney NOW! Especially in California where you will be raped in taxes. |

This is a very common scam with a huge network of operatives ending in lots of lost money on fake fees, etc and identity theft of victims. Don't you watch dateline or 60 Minutes?! If you really know this dead uncle and have reason to believe this is real and not a scam, get a tax attorney before the transfer is complete. Do not bring the money into the country without a lawyer! Seriously, as someone else said, if this is one of those scams, notify your bank, put out a fraud alert with the credit agencies and contact your local police or the office of the Attorney General of the state of California for assistance. |

Did you tell them any personal information about yourself, like your full name and Social Insurance Number?
Did you know the Uncle who died and left you money?
I get ten emails a week telling me that people have left me millions ..... geeze, they all want to give me money! Ha!

Contact your tax person and they will be able to hook you up with the proper info. You will have to pay tax on next years return on the income as far as I know. Good luck with that. |
