My weekly pay slip states my tax code as 522l but my p60 states my tax code is 503l whats the difference?
i am currently wking in 2 places 1 full time n other part time both employees deduct 522l as tax code but both deduct different percentage is there a particular way the tax structure works .????

There is no mistake about the 503 and 522. Your P60 is from the previous year 06/07 and should be 503. Your payslip is for the current year 07/08 and should be 522. Everyone is the same.

The only mistake being made is that both tax codes are the same. Your full time job should be 522, the other should be BR. At the moment it is in your favour but I would advise you to get it sorted out as you will have to pay a higher bill the longer it goes on. Inland revenue may not realise until next April and the amount of tax you owe will be phenomenal.

The HR department of your part time job should be able to help you but you should fill out a P46 to give to them.

And remember that inland revenue WILL check your taxes and amend as appropriate.

Hope you get it sorted.

The 503 Code relates to 2006/07, the 522 relates to 2007/08.

you are currently allowed a tax free allowance of £5220 per year this is approx £93pw however as you have a second job this is not applied to that position so you will pay more tax for that work. It's 20% on any wages over the £93. your p60 will show a different amount as it was for last year. Your tax free allowance will rise each year (not by much but it does!)

If your weekly payslips are recent e.g the last 4 weeks then 522L is your tax code for 2007/2008.
If you recently received your P60 it is for the tax year 2006/2007 so its has your tax code from that year on it i.e 503L.

The P60 shows last years earnings and tax code whiuch was 503L.

This year your tax code is 522L - it has changed as the personal allowances have been increased.

Your main job will pay you £5220 tax free and then tax the rest at 22%. Your second job will charge 22% of all your wages.

It's a minefield . . . . Mine is 0, which means I can't earn any money before I'm taxed, you as far as I'm aware can earn about £5K before you pay tax. . . bloody government

Yes, because you have two jobs u get taxed alot more. and they mainly take the most tax from the full time job.

I think there is a mistake somewhere. Talk to your tax office.
