Robert and Tanya | My wife and I are not having kids. Why do we have to pay for yours to go to school? |
My wife and I do not nor will not have kids, and yet we have to pay the same taxes as everyone else who do. Your kids use the school and you get the tax deduction just for reproducing. I have to pay double the taxes. How is this fair? Additional Details For those of you who say because people paid for me? Wouldn't my parents have paid for me? Oh and my wife is 25 and I'm 28. Your kids won't be paying for my SS and Medicare because I'm sure it won't be available when I'm 65. |

It's not fair. This is a major problem with government sposonred education. It is badly in need of reform. Two books I think you should read:
The Fair Tax Book By John Linder and Neal Boortz
Somebody's Gotta Say It by Neal Boortz
Both are very informative, revealing, and entertaining.
People who do not have children should not have to pay for public schools. People who send their kids to private schools should also not have to pay the taxes. |

You benefit vicariously because if the kids in your neighborhood weren't educated, they'd be running around vandalizing, and getting into trouble. We all pay for people to sit in jails too. Pick your battles. |

I don't have kids yet but am planning too. But I suppose you have to look at it this way, you are helping to pay for the future. What if one of the kids that you don't want to pay for finds the cure for a disease or condition that you might have or may get because you helped pay for his schooling. |

You pay because YOU went to school. You pay because you want the guy making your hamburger to be educated enough to do his job. You pay because every single person in this country must be educated, it's the law. So of course, every single person must pay into that.
Makes sense, right? I homeschool and I still pay. |

Because an educated populace contributes to an orderly and highly functioning society. On the other hand, an undereducated populace contributes to social strive, unemployment, higher welfare rolls, etc. If you are not contributing now to the education of the populace, you would be doing so later on as you support a burgeoning welfare system.
Its social responsibility. You are contributing to roads, police protection, community infrastructure, education is one of these as well. |

Because if kids did not go to school, they will be more troublesome and costly for society as a whole when they grow up. If you don't think that will cost you later, you're not very bright.
And if you think, because of the tax deduction, that people are somehow making money, rather than it costing them money (and a lot of it), to raise children, you're just plain dim. |

My kids will be paying for your Medicare, SS, etc etc, etc. The entire community benefits from educating the young members of it. And, you are wrong, parents pay the same property tax (how schools are funded) as everyone else. |

Yeah and why do I have to pay for other peoples health care when I never use the hospital. And that road they built 300 miles away from me that I'll never use. It evens out in the end. You still have more money than the people with kids because they spend all their money looking after them. |
|

irf

Many others do not own a car but they are paying taxes for the roads you utilize! |

In case you haven't noticed, life isn't fair. Your money is educating the future of your country! And the tax deductions are a pittance compared to the money parents shell out for their children. Anything a child needs costs at least two times as much as that same product costs for an adult. Why should my taxes pay for social security when the reality is it probably won't be there for me when I need it. Why do my taxes pay for child molesters to get three hots and cot when they are caught only to be released a short while later to do it again?! That is the way the system works, it is an imperfect system in an imperfect world. Stop whining about being a tax paying American and be thankful you live in a country that gives you the opportunity to make a good living for yourself. |

Because the people that didn't have kids paid for you to go to school also. Not having kids is your choice but dont take it out on everyone else. |

My tax dollars go toward social services I don't use.
I have kids, but didn't before last year...and my tax money still went toward education.
I don't have any congressional representation and still pay federal taxes, period.
People who don't drive still pay taxes...with tax money going to fund highway building and repairs.
And the list goes on.
It's how it works. If people's tax dollars were used to fund only those services that particular taxpayer used... the system would not work. Taxes are levied to fund government expenditures...if we only paid for what we use, it really would be a fee system, wouldn't it? There wouldn't be any such thing as a public school, for example....or a non-toll road. Etc. |

okay, I'm going to try to stay calm answering this one. the children that go to the schools that you are paying taxes for might someday become world renowned doctors or come up with the cure for cancer. what if you were dying of cancer or your wife wouln't you want the best doctor you could afford? you were a child once and i'm guessing you went to some sort of school as did your wife. if you didn't then you probably wouln't be asking this question today! you got this far with the help of teachers. you have a choice. you don't have to pay those taxes but just wait and see where that choice takes you. |

The same reason that I--married or unmarried--without children--had to pay for you to go to school. |

You are paying for this nations future. |

come on... how much of the tax you pay is going to the schools!...what about pepole that don't drive... why do they have to pay taxes for the roads you drive on...get real..find some other deductions! |

So you would rather not pay.. and have an uneducated community just because YOU dont want to have kids? Its never going to change .. so either get over it or move. |
|

Faye H
 |
Because someone else paid for YOU to go to school.
Also, it is to your benefit to have educated children in your community. Otherwise, they'd all be idiots with low paying jobs and you'd be the only educated person making enough of a living to pay for police protection to protect yourself from the idiots you've created by not educating them who are now going to steal everything you own because you have it and they don't and they're too dumb to know better because they're uneducated.
Give me a break. You pay taxes for lots of stuff you don't use. I assume you're not on welfare, yet your taxes pay for it. I'll assume you haven't had a fire in your house recently yet your taxes pay for the fire department, whether you use it or not.
By the way, I don't have any kids either but it doesn't bother me a bit that my property taxes pay for the two kids next door to go to school. |

Most communities are judged by their quality of education, size of their employers, rate of unemployment, etc. Every property owner in the community pays the school tax because it is a benefit to your community. Having good schools in your neighborhood increases your property value. Having good schools entices new businesses to relocate to your area. Having good schools means lower unemployment rates in your area.
The tax you pay today may not necessarily be paying the "tuition" of a child to attend public school. It is the price you pay to be a member of your community.
Even renters, pay school taxes, whether it is stated or not. The landlords pass those costs on to the renters.
And, while yes, we do get a tax deduction for simply reproducing, that deduction does not even begin to cover the costs of having/raising a child. Believe me, I'm not coming out even close to being ahead on that game! |

I agree with your sentiments, but unfortunately it is the law.
In our society we pay taxes to the government in order for the government to provide an education to the children of anyone who has them.
However, you are eligible to receive a tax deduction for property taxes, which in most states is a main contributor to education. |

You don't, I homeschool. |

the reason that you have to pay those taxes is because somebody somewhere at some point in time decided that having a bunch of stupid people running around and voting for things dillydally would be a bad idea. Think of the government as the mob think of the taxes as protection, in return the mob makes sure that the mentally handicapable that serve you your meals, know , or at least have the idea of , safe food handling practices.
really its so that this country doesn't turn into someplace, like say Afghanistan, where only the absolutely rich go to some kind of school( other than a madrastra, you know learn science, math , or at least try to) and everyone else is an idiot with a gun.
so in short you pay for the education of the little brats that seem to exude from the earth like a slowly developing plague, due to immense amount of rabbit like beings that cant seem to get off each other long enough to put on a condom or just pull out in time, because you don't want those dumb-asses voting or making decisions that effect you without at least some rudimentary understanding that apples fall, stuff costs money, and its not OK to urinate in the chili. |
|

O yeah
|
I agree with you kids are a luxury not a necessity people should pay for there own kids including pregnancies and paternity leave why should i pay for that. Its not like the government pays for my dog and she needs medical bills |
|

hah
 |
I had kids and i agree with you, it isn't fair. The education of our children is supposedly a public debt and obligation..life isn't fair.....my son went to private school, which we paid for and still we had to pay the taxes..... |
|

Nairbgnik
 |
because its good to have wild brats in ur neighborhood who disrespect teachers and write graffitti on bridges and walls....u have to pay for this luxury...remember their self-esteem is at stake... |
