A rather expensive, even bizarre proposal to train the low life of this country to do battle with greater competence.
A modern army requires intelligence, competence and diligence; hardly the qualities of a gang member whose abilities are probably limited to boosting the cannon fodder of the armies of The Great War.
A return of the death penalty, combined with an age of legal responsibility of thirteen may not cure the problem but it would certainly thin out the offenders. |

I agree. Make them join the army. The army seem to have a much scarier disipline system than we have on "civi street". Soldiers are practically forced to have respect for authority.
On top of that, in the army, soldiers can learn a trade - they don't just run around fields all day with toy guns. Surely when/if they decide the leave the army, if the yob can rip you off doing unnecessary MOT repairs to your F reg Ford Fiesta rather than stabbing you in the street and taking your wallet, it's a step in the right direction.
Yes, it's also true that the elite sections of the army wouldn't want a sudden influx of lazy ex-dole scroungers, but they could beat them into shape first before annoying the real soldiers with them - just need a few tough b*stard officers to great them when they first join!
The other idea is to make prison tougher. When I hear that prisoners have 3 meals a day, sky TV, a gym and playstations coming out of there ears, it makes me wonder why our prisoners are treated better than our students and pensioners. Surely some homeless people would love to go to prision for a few months to get fit and fatten up! I'm sure with being cut off from the outside world (apart from TV, radio, internet and visitors....*ahem*) is hard and the bullying I image goes on in there can't be pleasent - but I do think our "boys" out on the front line take a lot more poo-poo than our prisoners do. Where's the justice? |

not a good idea, the army does not want a bunch of layabout yobs, a better idea would be to introduce public hangings like they used to in victorian times, this would also provide entertainment for the law abiding citizens. Once a few had been dealt with i would put money on the numbers of incidents of youth crime falling to almost zero. |
