Unless your employer participates in an online W-2 sharing program, you can't obtain your W-2s online. Take a look at the below website to see whether your employer participates.
Otherwise, if you can't get in contact with your employer, you may have to wait until they come back.
This is assuming they have already sent you your W-2s. If they haven't, they have until tomorrow to have them postmarked by, so you may receive them in the next few days. The above information is on the assumption the original W-2 is lost. |

No, those are not available online. Is there anyone in the business you could contact? The accountant/bookkeeper? |

You have until April 15 to file your taxes, you still have time. It's just easier and less hectic to wait for your boss to get back, unless you're dying for a refund........I know I am :)
Good Luck! |

You have until April to file. If your boss is the one responsible for your W2 without any office assistant then you will probably have to wait until he gets back. If he didn't have this form to you by the 31st then he could be in trouble if you wanted to pursue this. |

The only way is if you know your employers accountant.....the place that does the W-2's for them (unless they do it themself). By law, you are supposed to have it by 1/31. You can report them. |

Your employer is required by law to give you all that information by January 31st. I don't see how you can get a hold of your W2 unless you speak to him or your payroll department and request it. That was very unprofessional of him to neglect this before going away. |

No. The only way to get your W-2 is to find out who does the payroll for the company, or your bosses company accountant. I myself am an accountant, and know for a fact, that there is just no other way! Sorry! If he just did not give it to you, you need to report him. But if you lost it, it is up to you to figure out how to get a copy of it. And no, the IRS doesnt have a copy of it... there is a reason you send that information into them for tax purposes. To any of you that said to call the IRS..that would only do you good, if you were asking for the BLANK form.. which does an individual no good...something I as an accountant would do, so I could print out your W-2! WITH ALL DO RESPECT to the person that questioned me! Calling the IRS does you NO GOOD, unless you are the professional filling it out! |

I misplaced my W-2 after i received it, is there any way I can obtain a copy of it? |

There are various errors in other answers, but let me summarize the law.
If you ask your employer for a copy, they are required to give it you, but may charge you for it. They have 30 days from the date of the request. If they refuse, you may then notify the IRS, and file a form 4852 with your tax return (no earlier than April 15) indicating the correct amounts. If you are in a state with a state income tax, there may be a similar form, or the 4852 may be acceptable.
The IRS _DOES NOT_ (yet) have a copy of the W-2. Your employer needs to send it to the Social Security Administration by February 28. Eventually, a copy gets to the IRS. You may request a copy of it from the IRS after June 2009, I believe, but that won't do you any good now. |

So did you already receive the original W2 and lost it since you are wanting a copy?
If the company you work for has a HR personal ask them if the W2 are online. If not you have to wait for your employer to return.
Your employer has until Jan 31, 2008 to have the original W2 in the mail(postmarked)
IRS does not have the W2 in their files yet, theIRS will not be able to provide copies of 2007 W2's until after June or July 2008.
IF you don't receive your W2 from your employer by 02-15-2008 and you have contact the employer several times, then you may contact IRS at 1-800-829-1040, |

W2 are to be postmarked and mailed out Jan31. Your employer may have a payroll service that is going to send those out. No way to get a copy on line. Maybe you could call and get a reprint of your end of the year check stub - you could calculate the taxes, but not submit them without the proper W2. The W2 should arrive soon. |

You should be able to contact your company's HR department and get another copy. The only way that you can get it on line is if your company offers electronic copies instead of hard copies... this would be on the company's website and probably a feature that you would have to sign up for. My company offers this feature for employees that do not want there W2's mailed. |

IF YOU KNEW WHERE THE boss got his taxes done, then maybe you can ask his accountant for a copy. ALSO there is no one else in the company besides the boss (no secretary) that can get you a copy??? I WOULD TRY THESE FIRST OTHER THAN THAT YOU WOULD HAVE TO JUST WAIT!!!! SORRY |

No there is no place on line that I know of, where you can get that information.
I would try to call whomever handles the payroll for your employer. They should have the info.
If that doesn't work, and you can't wait for your boss to comeback, then you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. They have a copy of your withholding statement. It will still take a couple weeks for them to get it to you.
UPDATE:
To the uhhmmmmm 'CPA/ Payroll/ Account Specialist', who said that the IRS doesn't have a copy of your w-2, with all do respect, that is total bunk.
If the IRS didn't have a copy of ones w-2, then how on earth could people e-file without attaching a copy of the statement.
As a former business owner who had like 35 full time employees, I know we had to send copies of our employees w-2's to the IRS. Now they are usually filed electronically .
Plus I have personally called and ordered w-2's from the IRS.
So there......lol |
