Child support is not income to the parent who receives it or a deduction for the person who pays it. |
|

 |
There is no specific deduction for expenses paid for support of a child.
However, there are tax benefits attached to a child, such as the personal exemption, child tax credit, earned income credit, and dependent care credit. These benefits are available to parents who, combined, live with their child for more than six months and who support their child. So in this sense, there are tax benefits to supporting a child.
If you are the custodial parent and you are not able to use the tax benefits attached to your child, you can waive the child's exemption and child tax credit to the noncustodial parent. This may be worth up to approximately $1,500 to him. Fill our IRS Form 8332, sign, and provide to the noncustodial parent. |

It's not deductible to him, and it's not income to you. Nobody claims the chid support on their tax return. |

No one does. |

the paying or receiving of child support is not claimable. however, the claiming of that dependent is the issue at tax time. |

No one can. Child support is not allowed to be claimed by anyone on taxes. |

It is your personal expense. If the child is your dependent, you can claim the exemption; your EIC may increase; you may get child tax credit. |
|

One Step Ahead
|
I don't quiet understand your question. In order to use child support as a deduction you have to show proof. Whether the mother is or not employed then she can claim head of the household. Head of household the child must be living with that person, and they are the only person bringing in money to that family. If the father is not paying child support, he can not claim this deduction. |
