Chances are you will get another notice that your rebate payment is being applied to your past due IRS bill. People can make mistakes... sorry you have gotten rude remarks.

No you won't be receiving your rebate, IRS has to send you a letter that states how much you qualify for. IRS didn't make different letters for the rebates they would be offsetting.
Sure this isn't what you wanted to hear, but at least you will pay off your debt a little sooner than having all the extra interest and penalties to pay

AZHeatwalker
I would really be surprised if you received it. If you still owe them, they'll probably keep it.

Most likely you will get an offset letter detailing the amount of the rebate that was offset to pay what you owe. Don't expect to get a check unless the amount of the rebate is more than what you owe.

wow, some of these people are really rude. anyway, i'm having the same problem. except, i'm not quite sure how much left i owe. my check is supposed to be mailed on this upcoming friday. if you go to the irs website (www.irs.gov) and click on "where's my refund?" it takes you to a page where you can check to see where your stimulus payment is. i don't know if that helps any. And screw that guy that said "i hope you learned your lesson"!!!

Read clear to the end of that letter - on the back side of it. There is most likely some type of note at the very end telling you that if you owe, it will be offset to satisfy the debt.

Josh
Hmm... Maybe you should start doing your taxes, and actually paying if you owe them. Then you wouldn't owe them anything, and they'd most likely owe you money.

I hope you've learned your lesson. Things like these are not small little details, they can grow into huge problems.

InspectorBudget
The IRS never "pull your legs". They are deadly serious - whether they are in the right or wrong.

Most of the time they are in the wrong, but it's your responsibility to show them that they are wrong. They don't have to prove nothing.

I really do NOT like them.
