Well, since most of these tax prep compa-
nies charge by the form, the more
things you have to claim like home
mortrgage, property taxes, a business
home office, the more forms, the
more expensive it gets, but usually
if its pretty std single no kids you end up
paing between 50-100 dls. but if youre
married, have kids, business, home
it could go as high as 400 dls. Thats why
I left one of these high charging compa-
nies it got so ridiculusly high, my friends
and relatives all got together and they
said hell, well pay you half and you do our
taxes at home, at first I didnt think I was
going to make a good businesswoman
but it turned out pretty good, this is my
2nd year doing taxes at home, notary
work, but if you can add & subtracgt,
you can do your own taxes itsnot as hard
as most people think, I was a dummy in
high school with math, I just didnt like
math at all,but once I took the tax course,
it clicked and I liked it and loved helping
people doing taxes. I would recommend buying turbo tax its the best program out there
right now, dont buy taxcut thats horrible
program, it costs around 35 dls. and you
save your info for next year you can
transfer all new info to turbotax

$14.00 at www.taxact.com - I rent; however, we sold our house a few years ago and I used tax act when I owned the house. My husband and I both have additional income from personal earnings above and beyond our regular jobs. My mother was a CPA and taught me allot about taxes and finance. For years I did my own taxes by hand and then I found tax act, the cost is minimal and it takes about 1/2 an hour. They cover all the information you would give a tax professional and they also double check everything on their system as well as with you. They even will alert you if they feel you could get a tax credit that you have not claimed. Tax act will e-file for you. The Federal is free you pay the $14.00 for the state. You can upgrade if you like but I don't. I have been using it for five years and swear by it.

Zero. I don't have anything too difficult.
I've used the free e-file offered by the IRS website for the last 4 yrs.
H & R Block is my service of choice.
My state is also free, as I prep/file on my state's Dept. of Revenue website.

$39.99+tax. Purchased TurboTax; homeowner; capital gains, dividends, other income, charity, residential energy credits; easy enough to to do by paper (before there were computers).

$0.00. My wife does them well (she's a financial person). But I've done them in the past and it's just not that hard for ordinary people other than business owners, if you can read and follow directions.

Homeowner, salaried, with investments (long & short-term capital gains, dividends, interest, etc.)

Zero. I do them myself (with the help of Turbotax on line). Homeowner, kids in college, but no complicated investments and just straight W-2 income.

I am a homeowner and I own 6 investment properties. I also own a small home based business. It costs me about $180 - $200 to do my taxes by a CPA.

Of course I get to write that amount off of next years taxes.
