TaxQuestion
Owe IRS 7 Figures / Can Never Pay Off Taxes?
I used to have a very successful business and made seven figures for quite some time... Albeit unfortunately due to the circumstances in my life, the government seized everything I had and left me pennyless and I spent several years being federally incarcerated. I am completely responsible for these actions and there is nobody to blame but myself; yet I now am trying to rebuild my life. (which is not easy) I am now over $25 million in debt to various creditors. (due to various lawsuits and other debts) and I owe the IRS taxes for 5 years. I filed for my tax refund this year and they completely took every cent of it, as back taxes owed.. and I have a feeling they will continue to do so for the rest of my life, as I am not sure I will ever earn the money I once did to pay off this debt. I have full intentions in doing my best to pay all the taxes required of me; albeit I am barely living paycheck to paycheck and every dollar matters at the current time. I anticipate that I will never receive a tax refund, and every paycheck I am taxed.. I will never see a cent back on a tax refund due to the amount owed to the IRS. Must my employer take out the entire withholdings in all the categories for my paycheck, or can they limit my tax liability taken out to a minimum, as so I can earn enough to at least live... and then deal with the IRS when it comes time to file taxes? I have full intentions of doing my best to pay all my taxes owed.. yet at this time, at $2,000 a month before taxes.. 1% of what I used to earn.. I really need every cent to survive. Hopefully by next April I will be in a better financial situation to pay down my debt and right now and am simply looking to see the options my employer has to limit my tax liability from my paycheck if possible. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
