Stevie | People who receive big compensation payouts (75,000)...can they still claim incapacity benefit? |
It's not me who's been paid out but a friend and they say they are still entitled to their incapacity benefit, but i said i don't think you can still claim .do any of you know if if you can still claim, this friend has been on benefits for the past 20 + years and the compensation is for falling in the road (pothole)and breaking a leg...beats me how some people manage to claim such big amounts for what seems a standard injury...but good luck to her anyway |

I am sorry if I upset anyone. As a person who has spent all of my life(14 years old to 44 years old) working for a living, never had any children and had to pay for the sheer indulgence of people on benefits I do not agree with people ripping off the system. Everything is becoming too Americanised it's the claim culture. The only people it hurts are the honest tax payers. |

Don't know, some benefits are means tested and others not. You could try looking online at government websites for benefits advice. |

I don't know but perhaps you can persuade your friend to retrain under the disability schemes that run throughout the country and then she feel better about her self.
Disability Scotland have some wonderful training schemes for those with disabilities. My friends husband came back from the gulf war with lots disabilities and retrained in computers and now teaches basic computing skills to the long term unemployed.
He is a different person now he has got his self respect ack. |

you have got to declare it to the claims office as i know it does make a difference in your money.they will find out in time, and can have you for fraud,as you have extra money coming into the house. |

Yes she can claim Incapacity Benefit regardless as it is not a means tested benefit.
As for the comment by a user about banks informing the Benefits Agency of large deposits in your account - that is illegal and does not happen. For anyone in authority that wants to see what you have in savings accounts they have to apply for an order from a judge and give valid reason to him/her as to why before authority to do so is granted. |

i got told that when a deposit of over so much is paid into an account the banks let tax know and they let benefits know so there's no getting away with it. |

I knew someone who was involved in a slight car accident. They went on benefits, got the car, mobility! Took him 3 years for his claim .in that time he walked round in a collar whilst outside. He now looks 70 he's 50. When they paid him out the DHSS took back the money they had paid him up to the settlement. |
