my pay went from 10/hr to 12/hr. we get paid semi monthly...each check is for 86.67 hrs. i live in wisconsin and i claim 6 on my w4 (i could have claimed 12 according to the worksheet)
i am trying to figure out the percentage they will take out for taxes

Okay. That's a bit more information. I still don't know if you're single or married, but the good news is that you're going to have very little federal tax withheld from your paycheck, if at all. Your social security/medicare withholding will be $79.59 (7.65%), no matter what your marital status. Wisconsin packs a hefty tax punch, though, clocking in around 7-8%. Either way, with 6 exemptions, you'll probably have about 14% of your pay withheld for taxes. Your payroll department could give you the exact figures (probably good to check with them, just to be sure), but my calculations come up around the 14% mark.

Hope that helps!

Ask your HR or Payroll person. They can tell you

Evaluate
around 20%

Frank H has it right. Contact HR and ask them. Since they will be doing the deducting, they will know how much it is.

hirebookkeeper
If you are married your Federal witholding will be 0, if you are single it will be $11.00. Your FICA (Social Security) will be 79.57, so your net check will be 949.47 or 960.47 LESS any Wisconsin state witholding tax.

TheOracleAtDelphi
they'll take out a lot.

John M
If you claim 6 they'll probably take more tax off of you. If you claim 12 you may have to pay more tax at the end of the year.

Doug E. Fresh
figure the average single person is in the 25% tax range, so yours will probably be around 30-35% give or take
