Now my husbands buddy made 50,000 claims 0 pays no extra married his wife doesn't work they have two kids and had no home that year and got back 5500 dollars he also has student loans.

There is no possible way to know for sure without actually seeing each tax return.
Besides which people are notorious for not being truthful about the amount of their refund.

One can never compare their tax situation to anothers because there are way to many variables you do not have access to in order to compare..

You guys should have claim 2 in 2006. An also you may have made over your tax bracket in that year. That interest on the house and loans play a big part. Next time go to a professional to see what can you get back you dont have to file if you feel like you should get more back.
The IRS is doing taxes for free this year again
Or you can try H R Block

if you think you made a mistake, have a professional do it for you and have them review your return from last year - if you did it wrong and are due back more taxes, you can file an amended return for 2006

Doesn't sound like you made a mistake - and it also sounds like there's something he isn't telling you. His income is far too high for EIC. Maybe he has $100 a week extra deducted?

Don't worry about his taxes. You didn't say how old his children were, how old yours are, how much he had withheld, how much you had withheld, etc.

my advise maybe considered having it double check by other tax preparer.......
