Question about tax stimulus packages. Please only answer if you know what you're talking about. Thanks!?
On the IRS website it says that anyone who CAN be claimed as a dependent (even if you weren't claimed) will not be receiving a stimulus rebate. I was a student for half of 2007 (graduated in May 2007) and though my parents didn't claim me as a dependent, they could have. Also, I only made about $13,000 during 2007 and therefore only paid about $400 in taxes.
I am not a student in 2008 and am making about $40,000 a year in taxable income. Because the tax stimulus rebate is supposed to be based on the 2008 tax year will I be getting my rebate when I file taxes for 2008 in 2009?

And, because my reported income will be higher, will I most likely get the full $600 instead of the paltry $400 I would have gotten based on my small 2007 reported income?
Additional Details
What doesn't make sense? That's why I asked for only people who know what they are talking about to answer. You apparently don't or you would understand what I'm talking about.
The stimulus rebate is calculated using 2007 tax filings, so we can get it sooner. However, it is technically a rebate on the 2008 tax year. Since I was a student in 2007 and therefore, not getting a rebate based on 2007 I was wondering if someone who KNEW what they were talking about could tell me if I could expect to receive the whole rebate in 2009, when I file my 2008 income taxes. If it doesn't make sense to you, you shouldn't have answered.

You can only get a rebate if you filed for the 2007 tax year. It doesn't exactly say how much you will get because the amount you will recieve starts to decline depending on how much your AGI (adjusted gross income). It just says that an individual could get as much as $600. If you go to (IRS.gov) they have a payment calculator (http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/) that helps you find out the amount you "could" be eligible for BUT it depends on your 2007 tax year NOT 2008. So it doesn't matter how much you are making this year but what your AGI was for 2007 and as long as you were not claimed by someone as a dependent, made at least $3000 on your AGI, have a valid SSN, and a citizen then you should be eligible for the rebate check.

Here is a Payment Schedule as of 04/28/2008:

DIRECT DEPOSIT
Last two SSN digits:
00 through 20 April 28
21 through 75 May 5
76 through 99 May 12

PAPER CHECK
Last two SSN digits:

00 through 09 May 9
10 through 18 May 16
19 through 25 May 23
26 through 38 May 30
39 through 51 June 6
52 through 63 June 13
64 through 75 June 20
76 through 87 June 27
88 through 99 July 4

If you COULD HAVE BEEN CLAIMED as a dependent fror 2007, you weren't allowed to claim yourself. But if your parents didn't claim you, and you claimed yourself, it will most likely slip by and you'll still get a stimulus payment of the $400 you paid in tax for 2007. In the year when someone graduates from college in midyear, if they get a good job for the rest of the year it's often ambiguous whether their parents can claim them that year.

And if you pay more tax in 2008, you will most likely get some additional stimulus money, probably $200, when you file your 2008 return next year.

Do you know how arrogant you sound when you talk about the "paltry $400" you'll be getting this year, when you didn't do anything to earn it? You might want to watch that attitude on your new, just-out-of-college job.

The total credit available to you is $600. Any part of that not paid to you in 2008 (based on your 2007 circumstances) will be paid in 2009. Based on the information you provided, you will receive $0.00 of the credit in 2008, so you would receive the remaining $600 in 2009.

Yes. If you do not receive the rebate or receive less than you are qualified for, you WILL get it during 2008 returns.

Back when they did the original stimulus thing a few years ago, they ask if you got your rebate. Those who didnt get it but qualified at the time they were filing to an extra $300.

That said, since you made $13,000, that should still qualify you for the full $600 if the whole "dependant" thing wasn't involved-- its basically elminating the tax bracket on the first $10,000, so you exceed that anyhow.

one way or another, yes, you'll end up with the full $600....

Unlike "some" people, I understand what you are asking....not sure if I can answer it, but...I'll try, lol....I do believe that the IRS is talking about the question that is asked when you file your taxes as far as "Can someone claim you as a dependent?". If you filed taxes for 2007 and you answered that question "yes", then you may not qualify for the rebate. And as far as your income of $13,000, that is enough to qualify. They are not going by how much taxes you paid, but taxable income and a few other things. But with the $13,000 you more than qualify (as long as the other situation does not apply). I'm not sure about your rebate for 2008. I'm sorry I can't help with that. And by the way, CONGRATS ON YOUR GRADUATION AND NEW CAREER!
