i made my initial claim for jobseeker's allowance on 29th April and have still yet to receive any money. i phoned jobcentre today and they said that the processing department had simply forgotten to trigger my claim and that someone will call me back this afternoon to verify this, and all being well i should receive some money next wednesday. is this normal procedure or should i be worried that i won't receive any dosh?
by the way, i've also just cancelled my claim because i begin full-time work again next tuesday!

Depending on when you left your last job or were first out of work also the reasons for leaving last job help them in deciding whether you can get money or not.
If it hasn't been 6months since you last worked don't hold your breath unless you were made redundant, also it depends on your savings and if you have any form of income or have children etc.
If you've cancelled your claim I doubt you'll get anything. |

Ive had the same problem, but I spoke to them this morning, and they phoned me back about 1 minute ago and have sorted out the problem and they will pay me tomorrow, so I think you will be OK |

It normally takes around 2 wks to get a payment. Congratulations on getting a job, best wishes for the future:) |

Well, I work in the processing dept for JSA and this can happen, we are only human after all and we have a huge amount of claims coming in! If you have called the dept and they have said they will get back to you then you can expect some money shortly, between 1-3 days depending on your method of payment. If you are entitled then you will receive it regardless of your finding a new job.

you will still get the money you are owed but by signing off you have just confused matters even more, its the DHSS they are in no rush to sort your money out and this is standard practise.
its funny how they tell us in the telly adds that all government bodies are working together to stamp out the benefit cheats yet i have to get bank statements to prove to them what they have paid me, how come they just don't ask there payments department what they have payed out to me.
they just like giving people the run around to mess their heads up |

Yes thats normal. The boys (they are just boys) in the proccessing office are useless. I recently made a claim and waited 10 weeks. I had to send copies of documents 3 times before they got them, the last time I phoned up they claimed not to have them, but I kept on at him, he went off for 10 minutes and when he came back on the line he said he found them. Funny that. |
