Yes, a wife is eligible for 1/2 of her husband's full age retirement benefit at her full retirement age. You cannot collect a check unless your husband receives checks. There is one exception to that. If your husband files for benefits at his full retirement age but waives benefits to earn delayed retirement credits, you as his wife may collect a monthly check.

If you have worked outside the home paid into Social Security, you are paid from your own wor

As always, several of these answers shoot from the hip.

Visti www.ssa.gov and get the facts.

http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/quickcalc/spouse.html

1. If you do not have an earnings history of your own (minimum of 10 years, but it's based on 35 years of work, so if you only work 10 years, the other 25 are all zeros), you may qualify as a spouse.

2. The spousal benefit is no more than 50% of the earner spous's benefit. If the spouse retires at 62, it may be only 32.5%,

3. If the earner dies, the survivor will get the larger of the two checks.

4. If you get divorced, you may still be able to collect.

If the husband qualified for Social Security benefits, the wife qualifies to start receiving benefits when the husband qualifies to receive benefits.

The amount of the benefit the wife receives depends on the husband's lifetime income, his age when he started receiving benefits, her age, whether he or she is disabled, or if he is deceased.

For the wife to receive an estimate of her benefit, she can contact the Social Security Administration. She will need to provide proof of marriage and the spouse's Social Security Number.

Yes, you get 80% of your husbands and he does not have to be deceased. My next door neighbor never worked out of the home. She started drawing SS when her husband retired.

If you are married, or were married for at least 10 years, to someone who is collecting social security, then yes you qualify for social security benefits also. The amount while your spouse is alive would most likely be half of his benefits, and his wouldn't be reduced because you are collecting. If you are widowed, you'd get the full amount of his benefits.

This assumes that you are of retirement age.

Apply online at ssa.gov or at your local social security office.

If you haven't worked, then you are not eligible in you own right. If your spouse passes away and was elgibile, you can get a spousal survivor's benefit.

My mom does. It is a very small amount. Their in their 70s. My dad's in a nursing home, and when he passes instead of the full household benefit, which isn't much anyway, they will be eliminating hers and she will draw his. That's what they told her. It's still not enough to live on.

you are elgible for your husband's when he starts getting his but you only get a percentage. And if he dies you are entitled to all of it because he provided your sole support. if you happened to get a divorce this can definitely be added in the decree.
