Regarding Stimulus Package?
I am a little confused with this stimulus package, I did not file taxes in 2007 because my checks are tax exempt, am I still eligible?

Was your income from social security retirement or disability?

If so, you may qualify for a minimum payment of $300 ($600 if filing a joint return) if your tax return reflects $3,000 or more in qualifying income - which includes non-taxable Social Security.

BUT YOU MUST FILE TO RECEIVE THE REBATE, even if you are not required to do so.

See the sample Form 1040A at the link below:

http://www.irs.gov/pub/newsroom/1040a.pdf

Alternatively, the IRS has announced an electronic free file option for people who have no legal requirement to file a tax return but must file a return this year in order to receive a 2008 economic stimulus payment. Click on this link to file for your rebate electronically:

Normally if you are not required to file, you should file in order to qualify for the stimulus package. In order to qualify you have to have made at least $3,000 in 2007 and can not be claimed as a dependent on another return. Now if you qualify here is what you do........

Get a 1040A, write across the top STIMULUS PACKAGE , then fill out your name, SS# , filing status (single if you have no dependents) then check box 6a and list any children that lived with you on line 6c.
Next complete line 7 with your earnings. Finally fill out the Direct Deposit information sign and return to IRS. Then just wait for your payment.
Go to the website to find your IRS mailing address it varies from state to state.

How do you reckon your checks are tax exempt? Unless you're collecting welfare, SSI, SSDI, SSR, payout form a Roth IRA or 401(k) or a VA pension then your income probalby IS taxable.

If you have at least $3,000 in qualifying income you may qualify for a stimulus plan payment. Earned income, SSDI, SSR and VA pensions are qualifying income. Welfare, SSI or Roth payouts are not.

No, If you do not file an income tax return then you will not get the Stimulus rebate. You can file a return even though you do not have taxable income for 2007 so you can get the rebate.

Visit www.irs.gov. There is a lot of information there on the Stimulus rebate. This is the IRS web site. Or you can call (800) 829-1040 and verify my answer. This is the IRS telephone number.

It depends on the source of your tax-exempt income. Basically, Social Security and VA payments count if they amounted to at least $3000 in 2007. In that case, go ahead and file so you will qualify.

First, you should file, even if you owe $0.

Second, since you didn't file, you aren't eligible. To be eligible, you had to make at least a certain amount of money AND file.

To be eligible you have to file your taxes for 2007. Even if you didn't have any taxable income you can still file for 2007, you would just fill in your basic information and 0's anywhere it asks for income. I think you have to make at least $3,000, to be eligible for the $600 rebate. You still might be able to get a $300 rebate even if you made under $3,000, but I'm not 100% sure what the qualifications are for that, I think you have to be on disability or veterans assistance or something to be eligible under that amount.
