well, i did this, we was in Manchester and i posted myself two letters to my home address over 150 miles away,
one 1st class one second class and posted them at the same post box.
they both was waiting for me on the door mat at home the next morning.
so it makes no difference at all if you ask me

Wasting your time I'm afraid. 2nd Class is no longer that much slower than 1st these days, I never buy 1st class stamps anymore, 2nd class gets there just as quick, if not quicker! |

I'm afraid you are wasting your time and money.
To get a pre-paid envelope, the company in question has to reach an agreement with the Royal Mail. The Royal Mail will acknowledge this, make a note of the number given (each batch of pre-paid envelopes is given a number) and how much was paid by the company. So if a company only paid the Royal Mail the going rate for second class on your envelope - then the Royal Mail will deliver it a certain number of days after you posted it, regardless of whether you have put a first class stamp on it. |

You could put 10 first class stamps on a letter and it wont be any quicker
It is true, there is very little difference in it between first and second, but you can pay extra for next day express delivery if it is urgent |

the only time it makes a huge difference seems to be during holiday seasons when there is more demand for mail. Then 1st class seems to get there quicker.
There are some time differences if you post to rural areas too. |

I wouldnt bother a computer reads a bar code on a prepaid envelope, so at the sorting office it will still be read as 2nd class.
if you follow this link & read some comments you will see some people dont get post for 2 months regardless of how much the postage was. & its all recent.

You may be better off sending a normal envolope. |

If it is an urgent letter best to register it.
I would not think putting extra stamps helps much.
