Sales Tax?
I live in Delaware which does not have sales tax and whenever I visit another state it annoys me a lot when i go to McDonald's and i have $5.00 ready and then i remember sales tax which makes it some odd number like $6.18 or something. I'm glad we don't have sales tax in DE because i would go nuts! If i buy something from the .99 cent menu i want to pay .99 cent not 1.16! Do you sometimes get frustrated with sales tax in your state or do you get used to it?
Additional Details
The mcdonalds thing was just an example, i don't really know what the sales tax rate is in MD.

Our property taxes are very low compared to 80% of states actually. People moving in my neighborhood from NJ, PA, and NY thought their yearly property tax was a quarterly one. However our income tax is higher than most states which is why all these old retirees are moving here, they annoy me too!!!!

I live in Oregon where we do not have sales tax either. My family and I went to California and it was SO annoying and embarrasing. This one time I had 3 bucks and I was going to get a ice cream cone that was like $2.94 or something like that and then the girl is all"that will be $3.17" Well I didn't have another quarter on me and they had already made the cone and there was this big line behind me waiting....it was soo embarasing. The person behind me ended up giving me a quarter. Anyways my parents are thinking about moving somewhere out of this state....It will probably take a long time to get used to.

Sales tax should be included in the price of stuff. That price should be rounded up or down so that we can eliminate really small change like pennies and nickels. It costs more to mint a penny than it's worth and if you cash in your loose change they charge you 10% to process it. I recommend that they put one of those whirling dirvish machines in public places and people can toss all their small change in and let it go directly to the homeless.

I've never lived in a State that didn't have sales tax so it's just part of life.
I'll bet that your property taxes are a lot higher than here in CA though because they have to get money for the superstructure of a State from somewhere.
So you see, it all evens out in the end. ;-)

Yes, it is very annoying because you may have the amount of money for the listed price of the product, but then if you calculate in the sales tax added to the listed price...you do not have enough lol.

Other than that, I'm happy!

You just get used to it because that's the way it is.

Florida and sales tax is 7 % but if you cook and can go buy food it is zero.

I think sales tax on food should be banned nationwide. Why in the world would a legislator who eats scot free on our tax money think that we should pay his/her food bill via tax revenue.

you get used to it, until its something more expensive, then the extra money reall seems to add up faster than you sometimes think. I like businesses that include the tax in the price they advertise or post on the sign.

We get used to it. I've lived in several states. It's just part of life. Like if you won the lotto and won 10 million dollars. If you take it in a big clump, you only end up getting 5.5 million because of taxes. But taxes on general things are not a bad thing. They help pay for schools, roads, and other services. We'd still be in little house on the prairie days if we didn't have taxes. There'd be no roads..

Wow you payed like 21% sales tax for the mcdonalds, thats alot. I just pay 4.5% or just 5%.

But yea I hate sales tax, I mean they take enough money from regular taxes I mean COMMON!

I think it has the inverse effect. Rather than getting frustrated when paying a sales tax, I get excited when I don't have to pay it, as in the case sometimes online, in NYC when buying certain clothes, or in NJ too, or in your case DE.

Hell, I even get excited if I go to a city with less than 8.25 sales tax.

I'm pretty used to it. In CO we have to pay sales tax on two fronts...you pay sales tax and locality tax. In Michigan (where I used to live) you pay tax on everything but food you buy in the store (you still have to pay at McDonalds and restuarants). My question is how does Deleware not charge sales tax? Don't you wind up paying a lot more in income tax and property taxes in the end?
