That is 14 months away. Did you mistype 2009? HMRC won't have any details yet of 2010 liability until your 2008/2009 Tax Return is issued next April, and received back, although your accountant may be able to estimate. At the moment, I would suggest saving what money you can in an account where you can access savings easily.
You can always approach HMRC for time to pay before the due date. Be prepared to give details of your current assets, savings, income and expenditure. HMRC are not obliged to accept your offer. It will depend on how realistic it is. For 10 grand, say, they won't accept £5 a week. They will consider chances of recovery proceedings, and which would be the best method, either in case of your default, or if they want to turn your offer down. Interest at commercial rates continues to accrue until the debt is cleared. They will probably ask why, that with that level of income, you did not make provision to meet the debt.
You should investigate the possibilities of getting a bank loan. That may be cheaper than paying HMRC's interest rates.
This reminds me of a boss I once had many years ago - a wonderful man to work for. He would say to people wanting to postpone payment (and some people didn't half try it on), "Of course you can have time to pay. As long as it takes to write the cheque!". He was sympathetic to anyone in genuine need though. |

have to do a deal with Inland revenue or they will bankrupt you, take your house etc leave you destitute ... Or get a job and give them £100 a week |

My brother had this problem and he phoned up the tax office and explained the situation. They were very reasonable with him and he managed to negotiate paying his tax in installments. He didnt have to pay any penalties either. |

You can make arrangements with the Revenue to pay in installments though they may come a little heavy with you.
Interest rate is around 7.5% at the moment. Best if you tell them as soon as you think you are going to get into arrears.
You can make advance overpayments of tax if this helps you to budget. This effectively means you are lending money to the Government but the do pay interest on it and at a noy uncompetitive rate.
This is easy to do if you pay your tax online. Just bung a few quid in when you are flush.
Going back to the original question: if you show willing to pay and keep regular money going in against arrears then they are probably not going to hassle you. |

The IRS will set up an installment plan FOR you, but God help you if you miss an installment.

Modify your books to use the tax money as an injection to keep your Business afloat ! As the revenue only pull one account in twenty to go over with a fine tooth comb as due to the lack of Man/Woman power, that is good odds ! |

If you are in the US
1) You should be doing quarterly payments to the IRS. You could incur extra penalties for not doing so
2) How do you know what you will owe over a year from now?
3) Have all deductions been taken?
4) Yes Irs will all you to make payments |

if you go to the irs.gov site you can make arrangements to pay. just disregarding will keep you in debt and you will continue to earn interest on the amount initially owed. not fair, but how it works. |
