Not in trouble, but you have to file an amended return to include the added income.

ninasgramma
You are in no trouble. The deadline for filing hasn't arrived so you can add the W-2 with no penalty.

HURRY and get back there today. Nothing has been sent to the IRS and they can change it. If you can catch it before Friday morning when they will likely be sent off, it shouldn't cost you anything (maybe $3 or so for the extra W-2).

You can go to H&R block and they can modify the return. The IRS is not accepting electronically filed returns yet, so your taxes are not technically 'done'. It is possible that it could effect any loans that they gave you, but when the IRS accepts your return, you would end up owing H&R block, so it's better to get it done now. It would only effect it if your additional income significantly changed your expected refund.

If you already mailed out the government copy, you will need to file an amended return.

First thing tomorrow, call the office where you had your taxes done and tell them about it. If they haven't transmitted it yet, they might just be able to make the change, and it will cost you less in fees to H&R than if you have them do an amended return.

If they've already sent in your return, then you need to do an amended return.

No, you're not in trouble yet. You can file an amendment.

I have already filed my return and now I have received another Form W-2. What can I do?

If you find that you have done any of the following, you should file an amended return 1) you did not report some income; 2) you claimed deductions or credits you should not have claimed; 3) you failed to claim some deductions or credits you are entitled to; or 4) you used an incorrect filing status. The form you use to correct the Form 1040 (PDF), Form 1040A (PDF), or Form 1040EZ (PDF), you already filed is Form 1040X (PDF), Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. Please refer to Tax Topic 308, Amended Returns, for additional information.
