I heard a rumour that "everyone" will be getting an extra tax refund this year in the USA. $600? True or False

Shorted on IRS stimulus refund, what can I do?
My wife and I filed our income tax electronically and were supposed to recieve our stimulus refund by the 18th of May.
We filed jointly and have a 22 year old daughter in college
listed as a dependant.
That means we should be getting $1200 (for my wife and I) plus $300 for our daughter.
Instead on the 16th of May I got a direct deposit from them of only $600.

How can I contact them to get the rest that we are due?

Thanks for your help.

Your daughter is too old. Only children under 17 qualified for $300.

You and your wife qualified for $600. You only get more than that if you actually paid $601 or more in taxes.

No, you should not have received anything for your daughter. You received the correct amount, and are not due any more. You only receive a stimulus payment for MINOR dependents, 17 and under, so you do not qualify for your daughter. Plus you will not get the full $1200 for a couple married filing jointly if your tax liability was less that $1200.

Nope. Just the 1200 max. Your daughter is over 18, so no money for her. As for the 1200 max, it all depends on what you paid in on taxes last year. If you paid in a lot of taxes you got the max of 600 each.

It was free money, be happy that you got any at all. Your daughter won't get a dime (if she filed taxes) as you claimed her.

You probably only qualified for $600.

The rebate for married couples is from $600 UP TO $1200. Most people seemed have ignored the UP TO part. If your tax liability was under $600 for 2007, then you would only get $600. You get nothing for your daughter as she was over 16 as of 12/31/2007.

The IRS has made some mistakes with these rebates but chances are you are not due any more.

What you got is most likely correct. Your payment as a married couple filing jointly is UP TO $1200, not that flat amount for everyone. Your stimulus payment is based on your net federal income tax for 2007. If your tax was between $600 and $1200 on your joint return, you get back everything you paid. If your tax was less than $600, you get an even better deal, and get $600, even MORE than you paid in. If you paid over $1200 though, your rebate is limited to $1200.

The extra $300 for kids is only for kids under age 17.

Read the info on the IRS website.

If the net income tax liability on your 2007 federal income tax return is less than $600, and you had $3000 or more in qualifying income, the amount of your stimulus payment is $600.

You should check the IRS website regarding the refunds. Some people get shorted for different reasons. For example, I was suppose to be getting $600 because I got student loans years ago they cut $200 of my funds.

This has happened to many people, they are trying to correct it but contact them to make sure you get the rest of your money.

they 'accidently' forgot to include the money for the children .
