redhead27 | Should I be taxed on my holiday bonus from work? |
I thought the whole point was that this was bonus money, meaning non-taxable... I'm not sure though...
Is this work holiday bonus money supposed to be taxed? |
|

The IRS defines bonuses as income and it is subject to taxation, not only that if the bonus is substantial enough you will pay a higher rate of taxes than you normally do. One way around this is to change your withholding to exempt the last month of the year then change it back in January. |

Bonus money is taxable. It is earned income just like the regular earnings for your job. |

Bonus money is INCOME, so yes, it is taxed. Just because it's a bonus doesn't mean it's tax-free. |

You thought wrong. Bonus doesn't mean non-taxable - a bonus is taxable income to you. |

Income is income. It is still taxed absolutely. You want taxes taken out unless you already met your tax liability. It will show in your w2 wages. |

Bonuses are always taxable income. |

I wish it wasn't but even though it is bonus money it is taxable because it is considered income. It should have ben reported to you on your W-2 |

Of course you are taxed on it. It is income and income is taxed. That is why it is called income tax. Just because part of your income is paid in a lump called a bonus, it isn't any different from your other income. |

Although, as an employer you give a bonus, not always do the employees appreciate being taxed. A vacation given is a bonus , and supposedly is taxable , yet , it is an incentive to the employee, it isn't looked on that way... Make sure your employee realizes it is taxed..... |
