Should I pay property tax?
My home is going into foreclosure, I don't think I should pay the property tax. why?

Property taxes are the property OWNERS responsibility. They do not follow the PREVIOUS owner (you).

As one other answerer said, only pay them if you think you will be getting your house out of foreclosure.

If there is no hope of saving the house, paying them would only be throwing good money after bad.

Go talk to a CPA and bankruptcy attorney for real solutions.

good luck

Real property tax follows the property not the owner. Unless you are going to be faced with a deficiency judgment after the foreclosure there will be no point in you paying. If you can rescue the house, you will need to pay the taxes.

If there is any equity in the property I suggest you contact a bankruptcy lawyer about filing a Chapter 13 plan through which you could pay the back payments over five years and not lose the house.

If your loan has an escrow reserve the lender will pay them if you don't. Then you are still responsible for paying them.

The city or county can still come after you once the house is in forclosure....

hmmmmmm
let them have the house and the back taxes back.

You will have a tax lien put on anything you go to sell and it will be collected anyway. Might as well pay it now before all the interest adds up on it.

you still have on the years you own the home like it or not ..sorry

You should but if you are losing your house and cant afford it then I wouldnt....it will be the responsibility of the new owner.

You'll be held liable for it one way or another. If the bank or whoever is foreclosing finds a buyer, the property taxes will have to be settled before any sale. Any monies paid out for property taxes incurred when you owned the property - you will be held liable for.

However, if you're already in foreclosure - and obviously didn't have the money to hold on to your home - you probably don't have the money to pay the property taxes now anyway. So the former is probably what will happen anyway!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune - I truly do hope for better things in the future for you and yours! Keep your head up and stay positive - and Good Luck!

nevermind anymore....dont...is not your house anymore!
