I totally agree,I do'nt know another country in the world that you pay a tv license.I am on here most nights because it is so bad.It should be a commercial enterprise.I object to paying for the likes of Jeremy Clarkson to fly all over the world smashing up lovely cars and most other wastes of space pontificating on subjects of no interest to me personally and I dare say many others agree with me. |

yes yes yes and hell yes why cant bbc do what the other channels do, its always repeats and hardly anything new or good to watch. And for people who are not into sports it a pain when they cancel programms to show sports events. |

If they produce programmes of quality that educate and entertain the public then it's worth paying. It isn't happening at the moment and they have a real nerve charging for the low budget drivvle the give us. If it was a private company they would have gone bust a long time ago. If programme quality has anything to do with price - it should be free. Actually, we should be paid to watch. |

even if you dont have a tv but own a pc/laptop/mobile phone with internet access you still have to have a license! so yeah, scrap it. its totally unneccessary nowadays. its just greed.
bad BBC :( |

I didn't have a TV (it blew up) so I didn't renew the licence. Cue a succession of increasingly threatening letters e.g., we know where you live..., etc, etc.
Even got a knock on the door one Friday night by a woman asking if she could have a look round my house! Have a guess what I told her to do!
Bought a licence in the end just so they would leave me alone! I have a TV again and I still don't watch it... lol. What a waste of money! |

when your 75 years old then you do have to pay for tv licence, so you have got to wait a long time for that to happen. |

yes the tv licence should be scrapped as you can get most channels if you have sky etc and its a load of rubbish on bbc somtimes |

Yes, - with IMMEDIATE effect!
I do feel, that TV companies need to get their collective ACTS, together, so, that they are able to come up, with some DECENT programmes.
That way, we MIGHT just be able to DO AWAY WITH some of the current TRIPE, - e.g. "EASTENDERS", and the cringe-inducing, - utterly, MIND-NUMBING, - "GARBAGE" that WAS, - IS, - and WILL ALWAYS BE, - that God-AWFUL "BIG BROTHER" nonsense! |

yes it should. it's another bill we shouldn,t pay but have to |

One reason why many people get irritated with Commercial Television is the inane advertising - and the volume of them gives me a headache. |

Yes I agree. Everything else has been farmed out to private enterprise so why not the Beeb too. |

the bbc is thought as the royal channel because it has high quality television for everyone with all genres with a very high standard which is very unlike commerical channels which only show television programmes that attract alot of viewers
and if the bbc becomes a commerical channel the standard would decrease and they would also show programmes that attract alot of viewers and their mission statement "high quality television for all the family" which they have stuck to since they first started in the begining of 1990's would disapear. then people would complain why there isnt programmes for all members of the family like their used to be and eventaully people would recognise the importance of the licence fee
i dont like payiing over £130 a year but i think it is a good idea |

YES, it's extortion and it should be illegal. |

I completely agree, why can't the BBC just show product adverts to get the money instead of charging people who dont even watch their shows. |

of course it should be scrapped its daylight robbery.... the only good news is that its free when you reach 75!!! |

I'm with you, scrap this unfair tax. I use my TV to watch pre-recorded DVDs, for which I don't need a licence, yet get regularly accused of breaking the law, for which they have no evidence, I wonder if I could sue for harassment?
Have a look at http://www.tvlicensing.biz/
There are interesting figures (from the BBC) with regard to the BBC being a subscription channel.
There's also a section that advises in what situations a licence is or isn't required. |

I love Dr Who but hate East Enders, some of the BBC stuff is complete rubbish and personally offencive. I pay for cable and am paying twice to watch BBC, most of which I would rather write complaints about. The BBC takes its responsibility as a Broadcaster a joke and has no problem with providing misinformation and extra ordinary bias or is it rendition! |

the law giving the BBC the right to drive around in little vans checking to see if theres a tv even in the house is about the most stupid thing i've ever heard of.
you can't even own a tv without paying the tax.
what if i just watch video's i've purchased from the market or blockbastards?
why should the bbc be able to tax me?
should PBS in the US be able to do the same thing? |

Well I do not agree. I think the license fee is very good value for everything you get with - all the BBC tv channels, including the freeview channels, all the radio stations, and all the other cool stuff the Beeb does.
I hate adverts, especially on the radio - I think its brilliant the BBC is free from adverts. ITV always has to make sure it pleases its advertisers, in fact they are more important to ITV than the viewers. You'd never find programs like Watchdog and That's Life on ITV because the advertisers would never allow it! They totally control what you are allowed to watch. Do you want them to own you completely?
The BBC would be ruined if it had to depend on adverts, and it would be the end of life in Britain as we know it!
God Save the BBC! |
