Stop insulting the Americans. What they do in their country is their own business. We have plenty of fat people in Britain.

Mr.Know It All
Should people from the UK pay more for toothpaste because your teeth are all busted up?

V G
You are living in the UK, so why are you asking a question like that. What do you mean by fat - as that can vary from person to person. Not every American is overweight and not every British is thin.

fejji
don't you think that if you are overweight you are already paying more in tax? if you eat more you are probably buying more, so therefor you are paying mor in tax.

If it were as serious of an epidemic as you make it seem, then it wouldn't be a bad way to get people to cut back.
However, I don't think it would work. There are people out there who kill for a burger or a donut, so an extra dollar or so would be nothing for them.

quit the stereotyping. not all americans are fat.

jstchel
Not all Americans are fat! That would be considered a racial connotation I would think, not to mention an overgeneralization and ignorance on your part

Curious
the logic escapes me. overweight people already pay more taxes due to sheer volume of what they eat. don't you think they have enough troubles without overtaxing them?

Sunshine
no, they should eat less junk food and exercise more and watch less horrible TV.
this goes not only for Americans. some of the most fit people i have known by the way were Americans.

Ducky
Like all good stereotypes, there is a truth that sets the standard. and if this is a serious question (which I sincerly doubt), I can tell that I live in California, where most of the food is cultivated/grown, therefore making these food stuffs more readily available to Californians due to price and availibility i.e. the balance between supply and demand, but contrary to popular belief (i.e. yours) Californians actually have the 3rd smallest obesity rate in the country. Furthermore, the higher (or richer) classes have a much lower rate of obesity than the lower classes. Therefore, taxing food (making it less availible, in theory) would only make places like California and Florida richer and do nothing whatsoever to the amount of obesity now plaugeing America, nor would it benefit other countries much since 80% of our food is home grown.

Try taking a crack at another ecomnomic factor. Then someone might be interested.

isaulte
We've got lots of fat people here in the UK too.... and don't we all pay tax on food anyway? So people who eat more, pay more tax.

If we are going to pay more tax, lump even more on the ridiculous big "cars" that are cluttering up the roads in both countries.

And to "Punch & Grope" I think you will find that British people with enough money to pay for them, have got decent normal looking teeth, thanks.

Absolutely not, people should not be penalised because they are overweight.

The Manufacturers should pay a penalty tax for producing such fattening foods!

no why???

NO!! They buy the food they eat and it gets taxed. The more they buy the more tax they pay.

Ah, tax is the answer to everything, isn't it?

Besides the points already made about the insulting stereotype of the "Fat American", we Americans don't always take kindly to implications that we need more taxes.

Remember the Boston Tea Party?

mamak2327
There are fat people everywhere, not just in America. I've seen plenty of FAT Brits. And not everyone is fat here, I'm not even close. I think the real problem is it is much more expensive in America to eat healthy than it is to eat frozen pre-processed food. I can live on frozen dinners and fast food junk for less than half of what it costs to buy fresh fruits and veggies and meats to actually cook a real dinner.

Lyss Lyss;;
No thats ridiclous. Why even as a dumb question like that. Some people cant help that they are over weight. G's

Jamesey - Reinvented!!!
How's this for you: Britian SUCKS! That's one hell of a dumbass country there. America should just drop a bomb on your fugly asses and be done with your snottyass accent and attitude.

no..
that is ridiculous..

jessesgirl_200
Lol. I don't think its insulting, they are merely stating a fact that is true. But I don't think they should have to pay taxes on food only cuz they are fat. If they are going to have to pay taxes, it should be for a good reason, like to help pay for all the food or something like that. Not something stupid like "Oh, Well we are gonna make Americans pay taxes on food because they eat too much and are fat. So they should have to pay." That is just stupid

Butters
lol naw, cuz not all of us are fat.
