Should i file taxes this year if i only made $4000?
i am single and live in CA...or can i wait until next year to file for 07 and 08?

It's probably in your best interest to file. Provided you can not be claimed as a dependent on someone elses taxes - and your income was not self-employment income, you may have money coming back.
On the other hand, if you wait to file your 07 taxes next year, and you owe the IRS, you will be penalized for filing late - then you'll have to pay what you owe plus the fines.

yes, you will get a refund. you should get what was withheld plus the EIC and who knows what other goodies. And if you go to a community college you may get even more back.

It depends on what that income was from. If $400 of it was from self-employment, you need to file, and file on time to avoid penalties.

If it was all from a job where social security and medicare were withheld, then you don't need to file at all for this year, although if anything was withheld for federal income taxes you should file to get it refunded to you.

Heck ya.....your going to get a check back for everything you paid in (under 8k or so gets full refund) just file a 1040ez at taxactonline or like that (free) takes less than 15 minutes and your looking at $350 or so

If you want both your state and federal taxes that you paid in 2007, then you'll need to file a tax return for each before April 15, 2008.

You cannot file tax returns for 2008 until that year is over.

Merci Beaucoup
yes, file! it's the law.

If the earned income of $4,000 is your only income, you don't need to file even if you are a dependent.
But you should file 2007 tax return to get refund of federal tax and state tax withheld. Due date is April 15, 2008.

You are not required to file taxes because your income is below the standard deduction for a single taxpayer. (If you are a dependent, though, you are required to file a tax return). But even though you aren't required to, you should because you have a good chance of receiving a refund.

yes its law

You should file. I think the threshold for not filing is something like $400
