Should my husband and I file our tax returns together or seperate?
Should my husband and I file our tax returns together or seperate????
My husband and I have been off and alot last year. We filed seperate tax returns last year (I claimed our daughter). Anyhow, he made quite a bit money this year and we want to avoid him having to pay anything in we are just not sure how it all works. We have always got a refund but we are not sure what or how the tax bracket stuff works. He made $72k last year. . I only made about $27k. His checks are set up so that the greatest amount of taxes that can be taken out- are. What is the best way for us to file.. or the most beneficial? Married filing seperate, married filing jointly, single???

Where ever you go to file your taxes will be able to tell you whats best..

The best way to determine which is to use the estimated tax worksheets and try it both ways; see which gives you the better answer.

Neither of you can file as "single" because you're married, so that's out.
Married filing separately is generally only a good idea for a couples maintaining two separate households.

Since "we are just not sure how it all works", I really recommend that you invest the $150 or so that it will cost to have H&R Block do your taxes, and be sure to ask for someone that can explain it to you. Otherwise you're just blundering around in the dark. For example - how do you know that filing separately was the best thing to do last year? If you are asking questions this year like "What is the best way for us to file?" why did you do it that way last year??
Get the advice of a professional this year. If you get advised to file jointly this year and your situation is not vastly different from last year, you may be smart to file an amended return for 2007.

grab some extra forms at the local library or post office and try it all three ways... see which is best, then redo that one in ink to send in....

I say you should file together. The reason I say you should is because psychologically, filing separately is sort of a way to keep your single identity in your head. But you are married, so in reality the 2 of you have become 1. So I believe all should be joined together :).

You are married, living in the same household, sharing all, have a child, so why did you file separate last year.
You should file a married filing joint return.
Visit IRS website for more information on filing requirements www.irs.gov

if you want him to avoid having to pay taxes.. you should have him claim your daughter..
and as a single tax filer.. it looks like being married gives better tax breaks !

together! you will get a greater return. Seriously, independent people get ****.

Azeeeeeeem!
