I have payed for any treatment I may need in the future with the taxes on my cigarettes. Why dont you anti smoking brigade try to do something useful. Try to stop binge drinking, drug taking, which is at epidemic proportions, sexually transmited diseases, also on an all time high, and leave us smokers alone. You only get at us as we are an easy target. |

Hey dont be so hard on them! they probably drink a lot to make up for the tax they dont pay by not smoking. And maybe they have a car or two, so they pay via petrol etc.
Just a mo...it seems we cant do anything without being taxed to the hilt! |

Good point mate!
Skydivers and Rockclimbers etc don't pay as much tax but get treatment when they fall and hurt themselves! |

I'm just frightened that Alistair Darling is going to victimise us fat people and start taxing my kebabs. |

You do narff need a smack!! Back off the legs of course? You know as well as any other smoker we will pay the TAX regardless of where it's spent! IT IS just a shame not enough is given to the NHS, for all it's projects:--To many to mention in this answer. |

So; what about the N.H. insurance stamp, income tax when we earn, V.A.T. when we spend, un-earned tax when we save, inheritance tax when we die. Where the hell have you been since you were born, Utopia. |

Erm, are you sure you worded your question right.
Should smokers be allowed NHS treatment?
Last I checked, smokers made up a large number of those seeking medical assistance from the NHS - breathing problems, lung cancer, mental problems (addiction, free nicotine patches, etc).
The tax systems for alcohol and cigarettes is fine. |

i dont understand, you mean non smokers dont pay tax on cigs? so pay "next to nothing by way of tax" for nhs treatment? if smokers want their money to go to children, not tax, then they should give their money to their children not buy cigs?
btw, im a smoker, but just dont understand your question... |

Don't they pay tax in fuel duty if they drive, VAT (on alcohol), income tax, stamp duty if they buy a house and so on? |
