Should people who drive those big gas guzzlers pay a special tax?

Terra T
Absolutely!!!!!
Not only do they drive the price of gas up (simple economics), but they emit 2 times (or more depending on the vehicle) as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which is a major contributor to global warming. People who drive SUV's are ridiculous. Especially since most people don't carpool so there is usually only one person in the vehicle.

jack430
I don't think that makes much sense. They're already paying dearly at the pump.

The extra they pay in gasoline could be considered a tax. Sometimes, they have to pay extra tax when purchasing such a gas guzzler--I think that is a pretty good idea.

I do wish they would be forced to park in special extra-large parking spaces way at the back of the lot--after all, having such cars really implies a sporty active life, they should embrace the extra walking.

emjay
well people that drive hybrids have a tax break, and big commercial trucks do pay a special use tax. its only a matter of time...

Oh! The Humanity!
Why? They already pay far more tax because they use far more gas.

extra_37
I think so...but then they paid a special tax when they bought it.

Bree
No that wouldnt do anything they pay for their gas and pay alot more than most because they drive a guzzler.

They're already paying way more for gas. Why charge them more on top of that? You know, some people may drive big gas guzzlers because they happened to only have enough for that gigantimous '72 plymouth on the side of the road or whatever. It's not only SUVs and the expensive vehicles that suck up the mileage.

darkdragonwriter
They already pay enough at the pump, just like the rest of us. I'm sure it hits thier wallet just as hard.

Ok ever think some people who drive larger cars and trucks have a valid reason too? I have a friend who drives a suv but only because her son is disabled and she needs the extra room to haul his wheelchair and other medical things in. Should she be taxes extra or forced to park further away? I dont think so, before you judge someone on what they drive, think hard.
