What are the odds if a lie was submitted on a Federal Document FASFA/Income Tax the Government will catch it?Does the government pay more attention to auditing somethings more than others?

they are the irs they will eventually catch up they did with me three years later because i didn't report 4000 dollars of taxes i paid back 10000 dollars in penalties and late fees and had to pay back my EIC i earned for that year

John
Hey, our new Treasury Secretary who is in charge of the IRS lied on his taxes so why not???

Sophie's Mommy
Err.. that is very illegal, you have to sign saying everything you submitted is true to your knowledge. So if you are purposely lying about amounts, then you are committing tax fraud.

hrblockgarym
Don't ever lie, and yes you will get caught because the data on your federal return is used for FASFA input.

No you should not lie on your taxws for any reason you WILL get caught and get huge penalties if you are real lucky if not you may get a federal prison number

The odds are VERY good that they will catch it. If not today, or tomorrow, definitely the day after tomorrow.

The fact you'd ask such a question in an open forum like this doesn't bode well for the likelihood of keeping it under wraps.

Is it really worth the trouble that will bring down upon you?

No. Lying is a sin. If you dont care about that, when they catch you, you could go to jail, get HUGE rines. Its just not worth it!

Angela W
Of course you should, especially if you want to go to jail for awhile!

Ashlee
The odds are actually very high that they will catch it. Then you will have committed a Government Fraud and the IRS will find you and it won't be good. Just be truthful and get what you earned.

Enjoy your stay in the federal pen.

Sorry. I've just always wanted to say that. Odds are, yes they will catch it. Depending on what the lie was about, and depending on whether or not you can make it look like you just made a mistake, you could be charged with fraud. At that point, I'm pretty sure you'd lose your FASFA assistance.
