JAYNE C | Since changing my electricity account over a year ago i have never had a bill. Really worried.? |
I have rang and asked on a couple of occasions but have still not received one. What should I do? |

Uh-oh. This is going to hurt when you get it sorted. Get back on the company, you are liable for those bills and probably a ton of overdue fines. |

Make sure you have a note of every contact you have made, for example the name of the employee you spoke to, most will freely give it, including their first name, however they are under no obligation to give you their first name, just the last, and failing that some sort of code.
Keep copies of all letters, read your own metre regulary, write down the number.
Cover yourself otherwise you'll have no defense, and they'll happily have you take the blame. |

On issues like this you should not rely on the telephone as the person at the other end doesn't want to get too involved as it makes the extra work to sort out your problem. Always write to them and send a copy to the Chief Executive of the company outline the problem and the lack of response from the staff of the company. It could be that they only read the meters every 12 months and it is then that you will get a bill. When you write ask for a Direct Debit form so that you can start to pay every month. Best of luck. |

send them registered mail and request a statement of account. if they still dont reply then you just fell out of a hole in their system and are non-existent to them. that should be your legal defense in future when they try to collect all their money at once. |

Write to them, send the letter registered post to prove you sent it and keep a copy for your records, I hope you've been sensible and put money aside as they will eventually bill you |

go in person or you better keep calling and find out whats going on before you get a bill for 2000 or more dollars and a collection agency calling you !! |

Easy to ignore it and enjoy the extra money, I know.
But you must keep contacting them, and as someone has already said, log your phonecalls and copy your letters.
I had the same thing with a certain gas company, by the time they sorted it (totally their fault), I had to paid a ridiculous amount every month. When I objected, they said it was coz I had never paid anything. When I pointed out it was their fault, the response is basically "tough", and "our system won't allow us to lower the monthly figure due". |

As many say start writing to them and keep copies. Do not just rely on ringing up.
PLEASE do not rely on any advice such as "it's their mistake you do not have to pay". You do owe the money when - eventually - they get round to you. If when the bill comes it is enormous you may have some ammunition to get an instalment plan. If the worst comes to the worst let them take you to court. This is where the paperwork comes in handy. You prepare copies of everything and set out what happened before the District Judge.
Depending on how he or she feels although you will probably be made liable for the debt the judge may say some harsh words about them and award them very small payments.
ABOVE ALL if they take you to court DO NOT IGNORE IT. You must attend all hearings. |

Sort it out ASAP. This happened to me and I found out that the electicity company can go back 6 yrs to claim their money. However if it goes on for a long time ask them to do a deal as it is their fault anyway. |

take a meter reading, and phone it in to the supplier - this will automatically generate a bill, I think (at least, it does with my supplier) |

This is tricky....the problem is, is that you WILL eventually have to pay, and chances are you'll get one massive bill in. All you can do in the meantime though is to contact the electricity company constantly - phone them, write to them, but remember to take people's names, reference numbers etc, and keep a record. If you haven't been keeping the money aside, you should start doing that now (a similar thing happened with my council tax months ago and I'm still paying it off now!) |
